Belinda De Shay, PMHNP-BC

Belinda’s lack of listening and comprehension skills is concerning, especially for someone in psychiatry where these abilities are essential for patient safety (and keeping them alive). During my medication history intake, she neglected to ask which medications had previously worked for me and which hadn’t. As a result, she prescribed me a medication I’d already taken before that had caused severe side effects. Not being fully familiar with medication names, I didn’t realize this and trusted her judgment—only to experience the same uncontrollable side effects as before. When I went to see her again to discuss switching medications, she dismissed my concerns, saying, “I’ve never seen that side effect in anyone taking this medication before” with a tone that suggested she thought I was exaggerating. It was an unprofessional and dismissive response. Please read the reviews carefully and consider other providers. I find it troubling that she works with underprivileged families—it feels as though she’s taking advantage of their limited options.

A mental health provider should be warm, kind, and supportive. They should want the best for you and do everything in their power to help you become healthier. This should include proper communication and education of the patient. This did not happen with NP De Shay. After seeing her almost a year ago, I forgot to make a follow up appt (as one with low mental health does). When I went to refill my script, my pharmacy let me know I had no refills left but that they would contact my Dr. My script was filled the next day. This continued for 10 months. I thought the pharmacy and De Shay were talking and that my refill was being approved by De Shay. Turns out the pharmacy was refilling without talking to her (apparently) and somehow that is my fault. I was not greeted in appts. I was not asked any questions about how I was doing. I was simply told I was in the wrong for making her look bad by refilling my meds without seeing her. She never looked at me. She just doesn't care.

This lady is the most unprofessional dr I have come across ever!!!! And that's a lot to say! I had to have someone write an incident report because she refused to refill medication I had been on and actually tried to refuse seeing me on the day of my appt! It was insane! She doesnt have any business dealing w mental health. Luckily I was able to speak out for myself. She was gonna have me be off my psych meds for no good reason other than not being professional. I had to remind her that I could be at risk for tardive dyskinesia if I just stopped taking my medication or had gaps like that. Any doctor should know that!! Especially a psych doctor! Please if you have loved ones or yourself are looking for help avoid this lady. She will most likely do more harm than good.
