My Therapist is a Human Being?!
I normally wouldn't review my therapist, but some of these reviews confuse me. Wouldn't it have been more productive to discuss your concerns with your therapist than run to the Internet and write a review? I mean, isn't that what therapists and therapy are for? Having said that, Dr. Porter is a kind and caring person who, in my opinion, is super smart and knows what she is doing. Yes, she is human and she *acts* human, instead of -- well -- like some other therapists and doctors -- and that should add to rather than detract from her perceived competency. She has helped me tremendously, and I would highly recommend her to anyone who would like to talk to a person who is not afraid to show their humanity, but if you perceive that as a weakness in a healthcare professional, then you might be better off with someone else. And as for approaches, all you have to do is tell her what you would like to do. And if one approach doesn't work, ask to try another.

Does not specialize in all things stated
I had an eating disorder for 20 years. My daughter was in middle school and struggling issues so I brought her with me to my appointment. She told my daughter that she would probably have an eating disorder too. My daughter cried as we left because she was scared she would struggle like me. She had me do diet programs that nobody else would had she “specialized” in eating disorders. She did more harm Than good simply because she really Didn’t know how to help me. She is very nice and a good listener. Maybe she is better with providing services in a different area.

Very incompetent. Very poor clinical judgement and easily manipulated by manipulative people to the point that she actually hurts and disables rather than helps her clients :(
