Excellent doctor
I have been going to Dr. Shook for many years. My former doctor had retired and Dr. Shook had just come VA Physicians. Most of my family goes to him. He is so patient and listens as long as you need him to. You can tell he really cares. He is quick to respond via portal and his nursing staff is also quick to respond if you call and leave a message. Dr. Shook has seen me through many a health crisis. His calm, warm demeanor is always so welcoming when you aren’t feeling well. He’s just the best! I highly recommend him!

Shook dismissed my symptoms as "anxiety" and "stress" when I told him repeatedly I was not anxious. He then accused me of doing ill3gal drugs (never done drugs in my life). He did not run any tests or ask me any questions, even though I was experiencing the worst symptoms i've ever experienced for an extended amount of time (4 months). Had severe insomnia, palpitations, shortness of breathe, chest pain, episodes of high heart rate, numbness in my arms, feeling faint upon exercise, weakness, joint pain, chills, and muscle pain. Shook told me to "seek counseling". Ended up going to another doctor and was diagnosed with long haul COVID dysautonomia.

First visit with dr shook he recognized that I might have cancer, when my long time primary dr should have caught it over a year ago. It’s not easy when you change doctors but I am glad I did.

Had to cancel a couple of my dad’s appts well in advance because he fell ill and had to go into the hospital. He was discharged after a week but then had to back in and stayed for a month. When I tried to make an appointment after my father was released to come home I was told Dr. Shook would not see him. I’m sorry my dad’s poor health was an inconvenience and I find it despicable that he would refuse to accept him as a patient. How arrogant and disgusting and I’ve even had my sons look for another doctor. Wish I could give 0 stars!!

I started with Dr. Shook when my physician retired at Virginia Physicians (a LONG time ago!). I never feel rushed at my appointments. When I contact Dr. Shook through the patient portal, I get responses quickly. (One time even over a weekend, and it wasn't an emergency.) He listens to my thoughts and suggestions, and I never feel like he thinks what I'm asking is silly or unimportant.

Dr. Shook is a very good doctor. He has always taken to time to explain my problems and what can be done to treat the situation. We are going to miss him as we have located to another state. I just hope we can find someone as good as he is.

We had high hopes for Dr. Shook. We heard such great things. After essentially blowing my wife off, he seemed genuinely angry that we weren't thanking him for NOT helping.

DR SHOOK always takes as much time as he needs to listen to all of the things I have going on, and does an excellent job of explaining his diagnosis & and treatment - especially giving me his expected results of treatment.
