AVOID
No bedside manner. Little medical expertise. He barely spoke a few words about the x-ray results. Basically doesn't want to see or talk to patients. AVOID at all costs.

Dr. Kwon is an excellent orthopedic surgeon
Telehealth
I had a very positive experience with Dr. Kwon and NYU Langone Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Kwon was attentive and patient during the consultation. Dr. Kwon clearly explained the type of injury (a complete tear) that was detected during his initial exam and the subsequent MRI. Dr. Kwon provided a detailed explanation of the surgery I would need to repair my shoulder and the physical therapy I would need. Dr. Kwon performed the surgery to repair my rotator cuff and biceps tendon. Leading up to the operation and the initial recovery, Dr. Kwon was attentive, and promptly answered all of my questions. Isabella, the PA for Dr. Kwon, was also excellent. Isabella helped me navigate a pain management strategy after the operation. The result of my surgery was a successful outcome. Dr. Kwon did an excellent job. I am back to biking and fishing 3 months after the operation. I am very grateful to Dr. Kwon, Isabella and all the all the staff at NYU Langone for the care I received.

Rude-Snide-Snarky
I don't care how good a few people say this guy is. After my consultation, I will not go near him. I certainly don't want an angry doctor inside my body. There are plenty of fine surgeons in New York who are compassionate and attentive. If you associate operational genius with snide, snarky, condescending self-importance, then Kwon is your man. Just don't let him intimidate you.

Exceptional Physician and Surgeon
Ignore reviews about bedside manner. If you have a serious shoulder issue, this is one of the 2 or 3 guys at nyu you want to go (he is in charge of Langone's shoulder fellows). i've found him warm and responsive regarding every question i've had via the portal. I am still in the process of healing froma surgery for multiple shoulder issues, but he was very clear about risks, post operative potential issues etc. Isabella his PT was also very responsive regarding Meds etc.

Waste of Time
He couldn’t care less because my condition wouldn’t get him long term business and billing. Very dismissive. Despite my telling him that certain treatments did not work for me, he prescribed the very same. Waste of my time and money.

Fine surgeon who avoided the need for surgery
My experience with him was great. He was patient, kind and caring. We did not wind up doing surgery to repair my partially torn rotator cuff -- because he prescribed a course of physical therapy that provided sufficient strength and mobility to render surgery unnecessary. He warned that this approach might not work, or might not provide lasting relief, but was worth a shot I went from being unable to put on a suit jacket without significant pain to becoming completely non-symptomatic. I was in my early 70s when I saw him. I'm 79 now, very active, and experiencing no pain in that shoulder.

Dismissive
Doctor was condescending, dismissive and rude. He spoke down to me and simply walked out of the room when the appointment was finished. Did not say goodbye or anything else. Perhaps my situation wasn't interesting enough for him or he is not happy in his work - would not recommend and am angry about how he treated me

Absolutely sarcastic and as as arm & shoulder Surgeon he told me he couldn’t help me or guarantee relief with shoulder surgery. When I asked how that was possible, he said “Maybe he was stupid,”something I’d never say or imply to a Dr. if you’re looking for a respectful & nice shoulder surgeon at NYU, try Dr. Rokito, or look up the 10 Best Surgeons in NYC, which list Dr. Kwon clearly is not on.

Had Rotator cuff and bicep surgery done at NYU by Dr Kwon. The whole process from 1st consultation to surgery follow ups could not have went any smoother for me. Many friends warned about the pain and discomfort I would encounter. Dr Kwon patiently went over everything each encounter. Especially the day of surgery. Following his advice, I found the post surgery period to be a lot less pain full and am healing quicker then expected. I would highly recommend Dr Kwon and his asst Jacob to everyone.

I was referred to Langone for a broken clavicle, and while Dr. Kwon was not who I was originally referred to, I was very happy that he was my doctor. He walked me through the decision process for ORIF (screw and plate surgery) or not, and provided me with a clear understanding of the benefits of the different approaches so that I could make an informed decision. I opted for surgery, which went smoothly, and I am now nearly fully recovered. For what it's worth, two physical therapists commented that I have a good scar. Dr. Kwon is also very personable. I also found Langone to be very efficient and well organized.
