Dr. Yohanna Vernon, MD

Dr. Vernon was our pediatrician for three years, but this past year made it clear she prioritizes her financial interests over patient care. Last March, my 17-year-old daughter had a routine checkup which went fine. In September, she sought help for PMDD. Dr. Vernon insisted on an appointment ($200 out of pocket). She then stated she lacked expertise and referred us elsewhere, In November, when my daughter needed antidepressants, Dr. Vernon required another visit ($200), despite seeing her two months prior.In January, severe stomach pains prompted us to request a GI specialist referral. Dr. Vernon mandated an appointment ($200), ordered an X-ray ($400), and claimed GI specialists required extensive workups and were booked for 6 months out. She stated she would care for my daughter's GI probs. I called a local GI office who said only a referral letter was needed. Dr. Vernon still refused to give a referral. A trusted physician confirmed her actions were excessive and unnecessary

Dr. Yohanna Vernon has a good bedside manner and is fun for kids when they are healthy, but when we really needed her help as our pediatrician she did not fulfill her responsibilities to us or to public health by 1) not advising a COVID test when appropriate, and 2) not providing any guidelines of care or a video appointment when my daughter got COVID. Dr. Yohanna Vernon's behavior exhibited that she had not ever thought through how to deal with COVID patients, which is surprising and deeply concerning given the prevalence of COVID at this time, and the responsibility that she as a health care provider has to help prevent COVID infection and serious disease.
