Dr. Woosik Chung, MD

I found Dr. Woosik to be cold and have absolutely no understanding of the trauma pain can cause. Unless you have a clear diagnosis of exactly what kind of surgery you need don’t waste your time. He claims to have state of the art diagnostic equipment, and then tells you you’re in the wrong place for diagnostics. He was 40 minutes late, and didn’t answer a single question I had. He may be a great surgeon, but his bedside manner is anything but. He needs some trauma informed education.

My respect and admiration for Dr Woosik Chung is only matched by my childhood family doctor, Dr Artwen Washer, who saved me from bleeding to death at 12 years old. Dr. Chung performed my 3rd spinal fusion in 2010, from C3-C7, which was amazing. Because of this, it was difficult for me to hear a certain amount of rudeness and uncaring from him when I visited Dr. Chung last year. At 76 years old, I never thought that I would be considered too old for surgery, as my mother didn't pass until she was almost 99 from old age. Agreed, I have a lot more issues than my mother at had at my age, mostly issues that keep me homebound and unable to make a lot of Dr's appointments. Having 5 diseases in my spine, including scoliosis, I live in a tremendous amount of pain, which is accompanied by gastrointestinal problems that keep me home,and unable to get out to physical therapy, doctor's appontments, dinner with family, etc., which only exacerbates my gastrointestinal issues. Because of numbness in my head, and the aggressive, and very painful "back on fire" scoliosis, I was hoping Dr Chung would be able to help me, no matter what my age and other issues were. I'm very disappointed by being turned away by him. Where do I go now?

Dr. Chung is skilled beyond belief. I have three new discs. I just had my final appointment and everything is great. Exceptional bone growth around my fusion. Played 57 rounds of golf last summer and will beat that total this summer! I still can’t believe my luck. You really have to pay attention to what the doctor is telling you during the early stages of healing. Follow the program and you’ll be just fine

Dr Chung performed a microdiscectomy that was so bad I was bed ridden. The surgery was successful and felt miraculous. 7 years later I am still doing fantastic. Dr Chung is very caring, friendly, professional and experienced. I would never hesitate to recommend him for back issues.

I haven't had surgery yet, but my wife and I had two consultations with Dr. Chung. I found him deeply connected with his patients and took a lot of time to answer our questions. Except for one small bobble, his office staff have been exceptional, gracious, calming and supportive.

I knew I needed the discs replaced between my C5-C7, so I was mainly shopping for a surgeon. I had seen 5 surgeons prior to having a consultation with Dr. Chung. I can’t say enough positive things about Dr. Chung. The consultation I had with Dr. Chung was amazing. He took the time to fully explain everything he was looking at during my examination and what he believed would be the best procedure for what I had. I’m so glad that I got into see Dr. Chung and truly feel blessed to have him as my surgeon. He is sincerely such a good person, you’ll recognize that the moment you meet him. I highly recommend Dr. Chung. I’d suggest consultations with surgeons but saving Dr. Chung for the last. This way you will have the opportunity to recognize the higher level of care Dr. Chung provides over the others. Thank you Dr. Chung – You’re the best!!

Excellent, Dr. Chung is very personable and actually listens to you. He explains everything thoroughly. Does not suggest surgery as a first option. Wants other efforts tried first. He looks out for you and your care.

I've been a patient of Dr. Chung for over 5 years. He has performed cervical fusions on me. The outcomes exceeded my expectations. I have scheduled a lumbar surgery with him. After doing my own research, I independently made the decision to choose Dr. Chung as my spine surgeon. I spoke to people I knew who were critical care nurses, and medical reps who sell hardware and materials used for spine surgeries. I am blessed to have a well-respected surgeon as my medical provider. He's a Dr.'s Doctor. Sooner or later, we are faced with the decision of going under the knife. When surgery is the best option, feel confident having Dr. Chung as your surgeon. Too many people put off having surgery because of anxiety and fear, while their bodies continue to deteriorate. My husband and I where very impressed with Dr. Chung as a doctor and person. He explains any concerns to make sure you understand your procedure and don't have any doubts and fell confident with your procedure. He and his staff are all impressive in there own rights. I had a multi lower back fusion and would highly recommend Dr. Chung and his team. I would just end on this, I have never meet any physician with such an out going and positive personality.

I had spinal fusion from T10 to L5. In the course of removing a failed fusion of L4-L5 (by another doctor) the year before, he found an infection which had to be treated. In spite of the complications of the infection, the spinal fusion was a huge success. It is now 14 months later and the bones has successfully grown around the fusion and the complicated surgery was a huge success. Dr. Chung is not only an excellent surgeon, he is a pleasure to be around and his staff is excellent!

I have been seeing Dr. Chung for some years, monitoring a back condition that has been a significant source of pain. I appreciate Dr. Chung's approach trying to avoid surgery. He is a true professional, has the best patient interaction of any doctor I've seen, and I look forward to working with him for many years to come. If surgery becomes necessary, there is no better surgeon anywhere that I am aware of.

OMG - You are in such good hands when you see Dr. Chung. I am finally without pain since Dr. Chung operated on my back. He is so professional and compassionate that I never worried about the outcome of my surgery. Hopefully I will never need his services again but I would run back to him in a heart beat if I do. I am only 6 months out of surgery but already 100% better. Dr. Chung is still following my case with the same care that I received before and during surgery.

I saw Dr. Chung for a second opinion for low back surgery. Was impressed with his expertise, knowledge, and demeanor. He also has a great sense of humor. I have elected to have him as my surgeon.

Courteous staff. On time. I was afraid that surgery was the only option, but Dr Chung was great in explaining alternate options, with surgery being the worst case scenario.

Dr Chung is an amazing surgeon, doctor and human being. He is always happy, friendly and knowledgeable. My fusion continues to be in tact (just had 2 year visit) no shrinking.I have remained the same height for 60 years!!!

Dr. Chung always have a smile and a big laugh. he can explain everything is a way that I can understand. I hope not to see him again for surgery, but I could stop by to say hi.

Knowledgeable, compassionate, interesting, helpful. Dr. Chung came highly recommended by another "bionic"pal who also has a ridiculous number of joint replacements and implants. He did not disappoint. Super helpful. VERY good listener, even asking me what I thought was going on (only had one other doc ask that and I appreciate being asked for my own insights as I'm the one who's been living with this degenerating meat suit for decades now; plus, docs will learn more about patient by asking vs just reading checkmarks on an in-take form. While the news wasn't good, Dr. Chung was able to show me specifically where my spine was already impacted by AS and offer actionable recommendations to improve my situation and my prognosis. Plus - they have an incredible whoIe body imaging machine. I have already told several others about Chung and will continue to recommend him. Front staff was super friendly. Calls with questions were returned the same day. This practice has its sh*t together.

Telle Visit due to COVID-19 but I need to get things going to get my back fixed. Dr. Chung was excellent in explaining what was going on, but even better in listening to what I had to say since there now may be more underlying issues. My wife who works at PSL and Dr. Hattin who did my first injection referred me here. Hoping for the best.

Outstanding care from Dr. Chung! He explained everything thoroughly, was totally invested in helping me to make the best decision, and it was obvious that he had thoroughly reviewed my case before he stepped into the consultation room. He’s incredibly talented as a neurosurgeon- my spinal fusion was so easy, it was like I had nothing done- plus he has a great personality, always smiling and happy. I instinctively knew that I could trust him and had complete confidence in his realistic evaluation of my condition and his ability to rectify it.
