Excellent Care
I found the entire experience at OrthoNY to be wonderful from beginning to end. Every employee I encountered was friendly and competent. Everyone was attentive and professional. The employees were efficient, yet I never felt rushed. Dr. Smith was the best. He was very gentle. Dr. Smith took the time to explain my injury and to convey my options. I would highly recommend OrthoNY and Dr. Smith.

What a waste of time
I went into the portal to review my visit because it was so rushed I wanted to see what the doctor wrote. I was disappointed that he reported several things that are not true or consistent with what I said, and that he reported performing a test that he did not do. Clearly he wasn't really listening to me. He did not seem remotely curious about why I have this condition, why it comes and goes, but rather just wanted to control my symptoms. I was more interested in seeing if it could be reversed or treated with PT and other therapies and not just managed with drugs and braces. Due to the lack of lucid sentence structure and punctuation in his notes, I think they will be of limited value to anyone else I might consult with. I traveled for 3 hours to see him, as my primary care provider told me he has a good reputation. I now feel I wasted my time. I will not be returning for a follow up and my review reflects my disappointment.

My wife had Dr. W. James Smith do surgery on her Left thumb 3 years ago. Her thumb is now worse than before and is hanging off the bone. This Dr. Is no good and i am talking to my wife about suing this person. When we tryed to talk to him about this he said she needs physical therapy I'm a thumb that's disconnected from the bone. And my wife is afraid to go back to him and I don't blame That would have made it worse. We will be talking to a lawyer. My wife is afraid to go back to him and I don't blame her."

I saw Dr Smith today for a injured wrist (which had been repaired once before) and an infected elbow. Dr Smith was very thorough and took excellent care of me. He drained the fluid from my elbow and recommend I go back to the doctor who preformed my surgery for an opinion on my wrist. He seemed to genuinely care about my well-being and I did not feel rushed at all. He took time to explain what he was doing and why, as well as give instructions as to what I should do if things get worse over the weekend. He is not one for small talk, but I am not there for entertainment. I think he is an excellent doctor and would go back to see him in the future if need be.

Very rude, disrespectful, and arrogant. One of the worst doctors I've ever met. Ruined my day seeing him. He preferred that we be silent and not ask any questions. When my son began explaining about his wrist, the doctor immediately shut him up. He was threatened by my simple questions and, instead of answering them, was rude. After much, much effort in persistently asking him a question, he finally answered it, but not well. He seemed to think we were a nuisance because he was in the middle of a deposition and they were all waiting for him. I do not even trust his skill and am getting a second opinion. The supervisor was kind, intelligent, and concerned and is looking into him. He is mean, a terrible communicator, easily threatened, and not necessarily skillful. If you or your family member is suffering from depression, anxiety or suicidal thoughts, or if you're not, definitely do not see him, for he'll try to make you feel like dirt. I had to ask him to be respectful.

Dr. Smith is a disgrace! Worse bedside-manner ever. Worse than Dr. House from the television show. Rushed, rude, explains nothing. That's after I waited over 45mins. I felt discriminated against (for a non-racial reason) and actually cried when I got back to my car and I'm a grown man. If you have an appointment with this snake, cancel asap. This guy should not be working with the public. His assistant was nice though. One star for him.

Worse doctor I have ever encountered! It was extremely difficult to get him to answer any questions or explain anything. He just wants to rush you out and have you come back in another week or two. He never spent more than 5 minutes per visit.

I have seen Dr. Smith several times before. Today he was beyond rude. He said "I'm a surgeon, and if you don't need surgery, I can't help you." Good to know. I wasn't planning on having surgery today. I may need surgery in the future, but if I do you can rest assured that I will never have this man do it.

He made me wait in the exam room for over 30 min. and examined me for 5 minutes just to tell me that I should come back when I am in more pain. The urgent care doctor did a better examination than this guy did. He didn't even look at my x-rays until we were walking out of the exam room. If you have an appointment with him, I would highly recommend seeing someone else.
