Dr. Weil Lai, MD

I make lots of kidney stones and have had lithotripsy several times through the years. I saw Dr Lai a few years ago after Dr Kerns retired. He scheduled lithotripsy for my stones. Five minutes before the procedure, he told me that I was rude to a nurse because I questioned anesthesia options on another visit. I was so upset as I was walking into the lithotripsy procedure. It was very unsettling to have to trust him with the procedure when he seemed annoyed at me. The operating room nurses told me that he is a skilled doctor but not good with people skills. I switched to another dr in the practice. I believe he is technical knowledge and skills are good, but I’m not comfortable with him as my doctor.

I am a patient of Dr Lais and recently requested my records from his office and realized from his notes that he was evidentally not happy that at the end of a recent telehealth visit about a potential surgery I thanked him for "taking a couple minutes" to explain things when the session actually took 28 minutes. He stated in his notes that I dont understand the concept of time and he would be ok if i was transferred to another Uro so he does not compromise the timely care of his other patients. This is so rude and condescending. This was just a figure of speech and i was trying to genuinely thank him for his time and i was very nervous on the call about the possibility of surgery. He said nothing to me at the time and didnt express any time constraint concerns. Of course I understand the concept of time and I will now give Dr Lai back some time as Im cancelling all future sessions. Please dont let Dr Lai's quiet demeanor fool you as he will not be honest with you in person.

Knowledge in his profession, performing well in treatment .

I read the other reviews here, and decided to see him anyway. I don't understand the prior low ratings. In my case, he was very informative, seemed to be highly skilled, and entirely trustworthy. I have no complaints at all about the way my treatment was handled.

Horrible. Somebody PLEASE recommend at great urologist/surgeon in hunterdon!!!

I recently took my son to this doctor for an ongoing condition. His conclusion was that a course of antibiotics was needed. I explained that he is the 3rd doctor to just prescribe antibiotics and I was concerned with this much antibiotic- when it clearly isn’t working . He response was if you don’t like what I have to say you can go see another doctor. I explained I was not trying to be rude but rather understand what was goin on. I then asked him if in a couple days the antibiotic was not working should we come back- his response- I would just go to another doctor. Bottom line this doctor does not care what you have to say as a patient or a patient advocate. If you ask questions you are insulting him. I would not recommend anyone to see this doctor.

Sorry to say not a very good experience with Dr. Lai. Selected Hunterdon group at the suggestion of my Primary Dr because of very high PSA level. Was assigned Dr. Lai who mentioned that an MRI would be beneficial and suggested having one but that my insurance WOULD NOT approve it. He suggested I could pay $975 ("a special deal") to have one without insurance and trying to get an insurance approval would result in a denial. I didn't feel comfortable with my visit with Dr. Lai especially since the visit started with him scolding for not having my mask fully coving my nose. Also that he seemed ok with going straight to a biopsy without the MRI. I learned today the biopsy was already scheduled. I seek'd out another Urologist in the RWJ Urology group. Glad I did. Saw a doctor that I was immediately comfortable with who explained all options and strongly suggested the need for an MRI and why and that my insurance coverage for it is certain. We had the insurance approval in 1 hour.

Plain and simple he misdiagnosed my condition. Didn't seem to spend much time and explain things. Felt rushed.
