Dr. Choate
The shoulder replacement I had was done five months ago, and it was the second shoulder. The first was so successful that when it came time to do the other one, there was no question. I really like that he keeps in communication with the PT people and coordinates my care in that way.

New Knee meets a Totally Amazing Team!
Dr. Choate came highly recommended and did not disappoint. However, it wasn't just him that provided exceptional care. I received a Total Knee Replacement and his team treated me like family, from Erica (his nurse), Kathryn & Jennifer (PT) to the smiley receptionists on the 3rd floor of therapy.

Two Surgeries within a Year
Dr Choate and his team came highly recommended, and they did not disappoint. I had ACL and meniscus repair last year and needed Achilles repair this year. I have been very happy with both outcomes and how everything was handled. I highly recommend them.

Best dr around!
Dr. Choate and team took the best care of my son following an unusual knee injury. He took the time to answer all my questions and made my son feel at ease. The day of surgery he checked on me in between his patients to reassure me again. The follow up care was exceptional and we never waited for appointments or for a call back to answer any concerns we had. Can not say enough good about Dr. Choate. My son and I are forever grateful!

Sweet relief
Typical great things that good doctors do. BUT his way of making you feel heard, understood, & safe stands out the most... Before, immediately after, & weeks after surgery. His attention to detail & ability to thoroughly explain: my injuries in a way I could understand (drew pictures, showed models, answered ALL the smallest questions with no hesitation or frustration); options moving forward (meniscus surgery & old ACL surgery still in tact, but new ACL wasn't providing proper stability. It was thoroughly explained to me the 3-4 scenarios that could occur during surgery, once fully able to access injury); surgery & modification with the added benefit (I was told possibly a new ACL during surgery, or 6 months later. After surgery, he explained a modification he completed that adds stability without redoing ACL, in addition to fixing meniscus. The best news!).

Excellent Surgeon
Dr Choate was recommended to me by another trusted surgeon. I had extensive shoulder rotator cuff and bicep tendon repairs in August of 2024. It has now been 5 months post op and I am recovering as scheduled. Very little pain and improving range of motion. Dr. Choate is very personable, takes his time explaining, and is very good at what he does. His staff is also very professional and responsive, as well as the Physical Therapy Rehab at Elmwood. I would definitely recommend him for any orthopedic issues and or sports medicine.

Highly recommend!
What a great experience! I had rotator cuff repair surgery with a bicep tenodesis. Everything about the experience was wonderful. From the initial appointments, to the surgery, to the pre and post surgery care. The staff is kind and nurturing, and Dr Choate very patiently answered all of my questions and concerns. Questions are also answered timely via the Ocshner app. I’m healing very well after almost 5 months.

Dr. Walter Choate
I received a 'Full reverse shoulder replacement'. I experienced full attention to detail, patience explaining my conditions and options, reception to answering my multitude of questions, and complete and continuing into to referral and communication with on-site physical therapist. I am so happy with the entire experience, the pre-op appointments, the surgery itself, the follow-up, and the outcome.

Amazing! Walking to work daily now!
I want to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Choate and his entire surgical team. After sustaining severe damage to my ACL and meniscus, I underwent a complex surgery. The team was incredibly professional, compassionate, and informative throughout the process, ensuring I fully understood the surgery and recovery. Thanks to their care, I found new purpose during my three-month recovery, staying active by painting and staying positive. Now, just nine months later, I’m walking and moving better than before. I highly recommend Dr. Choate and his team to anyone needing a complicated surgery.

Hamstring tear - grade 3
I tore my hamstring off the bone. At first, I thought it was just a bad strain, but after several days, the entire area was covered in dark purple bruising. During my initial appointment, Dr. Choate assessed my leg and immediately scheduled me for an MRI. A few days later, I had my surgery. Not only did the surgery go well, but I was also able to stop using crutches several weeks earlier than expected. The scar healed very well and is discreetly hidden. I highly recommend Dr. Choate as both a surgeon and a doctor.

Experience was great
Dr Choate is down to earth and makes you feel comfortable. Mine was knee surgery and it's a difficult recovery but having confidence in my care went a long way. The surgery went well even tho I think it was more difficult than anticipated. The team got me though it and the PT girls did a great job. I'm a tough nut and they in the end I was greatful for.. I fully recommend Dr Choate and his team.

His exact plan to help my shoulder issues. Which at the moment I was just wrapping my mind around finding out just how bad it was, his confidence led me to feel more positive of the outcome.

The Best and Brightest
If you are looking for state of the art medical care by a leading-edge orthopedic surgeon, then you've found the right physician in Dr. Choate. I have never had a medical experience in my life as seamless and frankly as pleasant as this. After evaluating an injured knee, the staff set me up for an MRI. Once those results were available, Dr. Choate explained my options in a clear and understandable manner, and I opted for surgery to remove torn meniscus. At every turn, his staff provided concise, compassionate and professional service and put me at ease regarding surgery as they guided me through preoperative appointments and prepared me for what to expect. After surgery, they were communicative, informative and most importantly available for my questions and concerns. It's no surprise that Dr. Choate works with the New Orleans Saints, because his practice operates as a true team, not lone individuals. Dr. Choate has the very highest recommendation I can give!

Tricky elbow injury
Telehealth
Dr. Choate treated an elbow injury of mine, allowing me to get back to training and exercise that I wasn’t able to do before I met him. He worked with me to try conservative measures first, which unfortunately, didn’t work enough. When surgery became the plan, he repeated imaging and was as prepared as possible. He called in some colleagues during my case which ended up being trickier than anticipated. I am so appreciative of his thoroughness and of the entire team for making sure I was in on the plan. Hopefully I won’t need future orthopedic surgeries, but if I do, Dr. Choate will be the guy!

So Happy with Total Knee Replacement
I’m just so Blessed to have met Dr. Choate last year after a snow skiing accident.Within my first visit he drained my knee from all the fluid and gave me instant relief. Eventually after the broken bone had healed he gave me a “Total Knee Replacement” and I’m so grateful he did. He kept in touch with me (phone calls) during my recovery to check up on me and that made me feel so good….Great Doctor! He had me in physical therapy within a week of surgery and once again I was in great hands with the TEAM of Physical Therapist working for him at Oschner. It’s been 5 months since my surgery and I have been able to do everything I did before breaking my leg…Amen!
