Great Experience with Microdiscectomy Surgery
Not sure why it has taken me so long to do a review but I had a L5/S1 Microdiscectomy back in June 2012 by Dr. Vishal Gala. It is now February 2022 and I have been doing fantastic and even had 2 pregnancies following surgery and no issues. I did have to be incredibly careful for the 6 weeks following surgery and had intermittent pain for a few months but nothing unmanageable and nothing compared to before surgery. By about 6 months after surgery I had no residual pain and it hasn't returned since. I'm still a bit careful but I'm so glad I had the surgery.

Dr. Gala performed spinal surgery on my partner earlier this year. Fortunately, the surgery happened without major complication, although it uncovered information that contradicted the problem we had been assured of previously. However, from the initial consult, there was a shocking lack of communication and the information we received each time we set up phone interviews to ask clarifying questions varied wildly. We are lucky that no significant problems have arisen as a result of the alarmingly different instructions that my partner has been given at each point of communication, but it's largely concerning to have a health care "professional" give conflicting timelines and instructions. Initially, following the procedure we were told that full recovery was to be expected by the three month mark; now, Dr. Gala is indicating that it might take two years + to hit that milestone. Being unable to receive a straight or accurate answer has been beyond frustrating and frankly unacceptable.

Vishal performed a fusion for me on my lower back in Jan 2016. Almost 4 years later and no problems, which is pretty remarkable for 71 y/y! If you have to have back surgery, this is your guy. lls

Had a laminectomy and discectomy in late Nov 2018. Dr. Gala is the best there can ever be in my opinion! He is a super suregeon and had an excellent 'bedside' manner. His skills a surgeon left e no pain and a 100 fix after my fall. Kaiser surgeons are very talented! Thanks Dr. Gala.

Dr. Gala performed lumbar surgery for me on April 20, 2018. The laminectomy did indeed relieve a pinched nerve between L 4 and L 5. However, following the surgery I experienced urinary retention, which a urologist told me was due to permanent damage to the bladder. I now must use a catheter to empty the bladder. Also my bowel function was affected -- swinging unpredictably between constipation and diarrhea. Also, my lower extremity nerves were affected -- neuropathy, muscle weakness.

Dr. Gala is one of the best doctors ever! He removed a tumor that was pushing against my mothers spinal cord. The surgery was very successful. We were very worried about the operation but were confident with Dr. Gala's knowledge, experience, and ability. He was very professional and personable. We are so blessed for him

I went In and Saw Dr. Gala after 6 Months of excruciating pain from a disk herniation on L4-L5, every other Dr I had talked with was very skeptic about surgery due to my age (17). Dr. Gala first confirmed with my family what the best decision would be, within 2 weeks I was scheduled for surgery. Immediately after waking from surgery I felt pain free and I can finally live like a 17 year old again. The Surgery was totally minimally invasive as the incision I was left with was only half inch.

Dr Gala. I don't know if you remember me. It was in the Pidmont hospital Atlanta in 2005. You fixed my back and I'm a very happy 81 year young men. Michelle my daughter and I actually my family we talk about you what a fantastic surgen you are. I didn't have to see a Doctor for back pain since you took care of my back, thank you very much. How is your family? Thank you again for what you did for me. John Nemeth nemethjohn@bellsouth.net
