Dr. Vela is nothing less than an awesome doctor. He is experienced, knowledgeable and kind. His staff is also very friendly and competent. I've been a patient for about five years and have never experienced anything but competence, care and goodness.

Some reviews seem very outdated. I couldn’t be happier with Dr Vela and current staff! I’ve been a patient over 30 years. Visited late Oct 2018. Easy to make phone appointment, he listens and is amazing at diagnosing and treating, and office staff is very friendly and easy to work with. I drive 40 miles because he is so good.

My whole family loves Dr Vela. I’ve been going to him for 15 years. It’s practically impossible to reach his office by phone. I live close by and just go in. They need to fix that.

Dr. Vela is a great doctor, if you ever actually get a chance to see him, however his office staff are some of the most incompetent, unprofessional, and downright disrespectful people I have ever dealt with. On the rare occasion that you actually get through to them on the phone, you are treated as an inconvenience. This is unacceptable for a small town family doctor’s office, and this is from someone who has been a patient there for over 10 years. Can’t imagine how they treat new patients.

Phones do NOT get answered
If it actually rings it is only picked up by automated system, you are placed on indefinite hold ,!
My husband was a long time patient , needs appt but no one answers the phone !!
Tried going into office to schedule Evidently all new staff as well . We will go somewhere else !!!

I have been seeing Dr. Vela for approximately 8 years. I drive a good distance to his office with no regrets because I am extremely happy with his services. Dr. Vela unlike other Doctors I have experienced does not treat you like a number. Dr. Vela takes the time to explain any and all things deemed necessary. On one occasion he offerred to see me for free when I had no insurance. In addition he supplied me with my meds for a couple of months for free until my insurance kicked in.

Since they've changed their office staff, the quality of care has gone from 5?? To almost zero. I can't ever get the staff to listen or get in for an appointment. I don't think they understand the meaning of doctors office/ health care provider. I don't remember the last time I saw Dr. Vela. I'm not even sure it's still his office. I can't believe he's let his office turn into such a rude, lazy disorganized office.

Dr. Vela is the best family medicine physician in South Texas. As a patient, you never feel rushed and he takes the time to listen to your concerns and will address any questions you have. His staff is courteous and helpful and his office is comfortable and inviting. He is excellent!
