Dr. Valerie Stewart, DO

I ended up in emergency surgery from a flesh-eating bacteria that was threatening the loss of my left leg, and possibly my life. Against all odds and medical professionals’ advice, Dr. Stewart listened to my wishes and did not amputate my leg. She not only did the surgery, but followed up with my care extensively afterwards. I’m forever grateful for her care, skills, and support!

My husband is the health care surrogate for Angela, a woman that resides in Largo, FL. On December 11, 2023, Angela was admitted to Morton Plant Hospital due to an abscess that required immediate medical attention. Shortly after her admission to the hospital, we were contacted at our home in St. Louis by Dr. Valerie Stewart, explaining the seriousness of Angela’s condition and the necessity for multiple scrapings/surgeries over the coming days. These surgeries were needed in order to clean the wound, control the spread of infection and promote healing. On December 22, 2023, Dr. Stewart called to share with us that despite the ongoing wound care and medical interventions, Angela’s condition was rapidly deteriorating due to the infection, and that her prognosis for survival and recovery was extremely slim. Against all odds and with much prayer, Angela became a Christmas miracle! We finally had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Stewart face-to-face in Angela’s hospital room in early Januar

Lack of follow-ups and not responding to messages (email and voice) for a follow up (per her medical order) is unacceptable and unprofessional. She did not take the time to see me prior to release from the hospital after she completed the emergency surgery, either. If you are looking for a general surgeon that follows up on her patients, Dr. Stewart is not the one.

Where do I begin. I believe Dr Stewart saved my life. What a talented physician with an incredible bedside manner. So calming and reassuring. I had emergency abdominal surgery 2 weeks ago. We are new to Florida and my husband was all alone in the hospital texting with my daughter, who is an ER physician very far away. After my surgery, Dr Stewart came out to speak with my husband who at the time was texting my daughter. Dr Stewart just took my husband's phone and spoke with my daughter. Not every physician will take the time to do that. My daughter was so reassured that I was in very competent hands. This just made my entire family feel at ease. Her office staff is amazing. A receptionist actually picks up the phone and talks to you with out voicemail jail. Kurt in the office was amazing. Helped me understand that this surgery was not anything I did to cause it...it just happened. He gave us some great advice and follow up instructions. I recommend them to everyone!! 10 stars plus!

Dr. Stewart was amazing. I had a small bowel block that nearly killed me, and after going to another hospital where they were just waiting for it to "clear", I am convinced that Dr. Steward saved my life. Because she took the time to sit with me and discuss what needed to happen in detail I felt safe and confident that no matter what, she was going to do her best. Today I am pain free and fully functional thanks to Dr. Stewart's skills and precision. She is my number 1 referral!

She is a great doctor she takes time to explain the procedure to the patients. I had a gallbladder remove and I did not have any complications.

Dr Stewart is one of the best doctors I have ever had! She took the time to really see me as a person. My surgery went beautifully and I could not have asked for a better experience. I would reccomend this doctor to all of my close friends and family.

If I could rate this office a ZERO, I would. We have an urgent matter and the office refused to make an appointment without a referral...despite the primary care doctor sending a Fax from the insurance company stating it was not necessary. Dr. Stewart’s Office made the primary’s office run circles to reproduce the paper that said we didn’t need the referral, then booked an appointment. When the elderly but very competent, patient drove himself to the appointment, they outright refused to see him for the consult without an advocate (The Advocate confirmed with two office staff that they could attend remotely by telephone.). Every person in that office had a different story, while criticizing their co-workers for making mistakes. They didn’t hesitate to take his co-pay though. The situation is now even more urgent and we need to start over. The next office I called did all the required legwork on the patient’s behalf to ensure he could be seen in a timely manner.

I had 2 surgeries performed by her. I would not recommend her. The second one I needed a port put in for Chemo. Was injected with a needle 19 times on the left and 7 times on the right. My chest was bruised for a month..I couldn't even touch it. The pain was so intense for 2 weeks. Worse than the Colon Surgery. Called a few times for pain medication but she refused only gave me 3 days while I suffered for weeks. Wish she wouldn't of punctured the needle in me so many times and got help
