Dr. Umalakshmi Thotakura, MD

I can't even describe how awful being treated by her was while I was in inpatient. All she does is meet with us every morning, ask 'Are you seeing things or hearing things?' And then make us read our worksheets to her and provide unsolicited rude and inconsiderate comments on our thoughts. One of these worksheets asked about something I was working on within myself, to which I answered I was working on my trust issues. She told me not to because everyone will leave me eventually anyway and so don't think about it or try to solve that issue within myself. Also mentioned a particular bad experience was deserved, and when she doesn't feel like going to work, she just sends her husband to deal with us.

10 years ago, this psychiatrist spoke to me for an entirety of 5 minutes, an adolescent at the time, and decided that a diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder was appropriate-- a disorder I have never had, and my therapists have backed me up. When I brought up my doubts about this incredibly rare diagnosis, they were dismissed. I had NONE of the classic symptoms-- I believe she heard the staff and other patients call me by my preferred name instead of my legal name, and decided that this was an "alter" without ever speaking to me about this, or using a proper assessment. This terribly inaccurate diagnosis is just sitting in my medical records. Dr Thotakura, as someone now studying clinical psychology, I believe you should lose your license.

She treated my 12 year old son as an inpatient and never once spoke to me or my wife. Her care was shabby. You cannot treat children and avoid speaking to the parents. I am a psychiatry provider in town. She knows that I know better.
