Fractured tibia
Dr. McGivney saw me for a follow up after being seen in the emergency room out of state where the doctor had told me that I had a fractured tibia and that I need to be seen by an orthopedic surgeon. I entered his office and none of the X-rays sent were reviewed that I had sent. They told me that they do their own anyways. After his review of his own X-rays he concluded that I only had a sprain and can use an ace bandage and an air cast and walk on it when I feel like I can. I told him that it was fractured, but he said no and that he stood by his diagnosis and made me feel horrible like I was not worth his time. After 2 weeks of horrible pain I went to get another opinion. YES! It was a fractured tibia!! It has been 4 months now since the injury and I still am in PT and have so much trouble with pain and walking. I have his ridiculous bill to pay for his 5 minutes of bad treatment.

I have history with Dr. Mcgivney going back some 20 years, when he did some very technical ankle reconstruction for my wife. He knew what he was doing then, and I have all confidence that he will fill the bill this time through. I would recommend him to anyone in need of a top guy.

I don't know why he has some bad reviews? He is the only doctor who has explained my situation ,thoroughly in detail and in ways that make sense for me! He didn't talk down to me and let me know my options in a clear manner. I highly recommend Dr. Mcgivney!

Our experience with Dr. McGivney and his staff has been amazing. I was in an immense amount of pain prior to my surgery and now I have NO pain in my legs and feet. I would recommend this doctor to any of my friends or family.

Experience with Dr. McGivney was horrible. He entered the room shaking his head prepared to lecture me for wasting his time. I have four ruptured discs, and spinal stenosis in my lumbar spine. It has been diagnosed by at least four other doctors and I was referred to him after being admitted to rush Copley with intractable lower back pain. McGivney said, shaking his head, AS HE WALKED INTO THE ROOM, "I can't help you". His bedside manor is rude and abrupt. He doesn't care about patients' problems enough to compassionately refer us to alternative therapies if surgery isn't appropriate in his opinion. He use profanity in the room with me, didn't ask for any backstory of what I went through to get to the point I'm at, he just concluded, many people have back pain and we don't know why. Really? I know why! I was injured, have four ruptured discs and the jerk couldn't help me? Not sure who he is IS helping, but beware this guy is a piece of work. Hope you catch him on a good day.

I was admitted to Rush Copley 2/22/2021 before noon with extreme back pain, McGivney showed up 2/23 in the late afternoon with a bad attitude - we exchanged a few words and he stormed out of the room - I heard him say, "he doesn't need surgery he has a pulled muscle." He misread my cat scan. I requested a new doctor that saw my problem and performed surgery right away, which was 100% successful.

First visit was consistent to some of the feedback posted before — limited facetime (was in the room for less than 5min), quickly jumped to conclusions on what was causing my back pain, and just overall seemed like he couldn’t care less I have some follow up appointments scheduled, so I’ll hold out hope things improve — but first impression left me hoping I didn’t draw the short straw in orthopedic doctors

I visited Dr. McGivney as a referral for DDD, spinal stenosis as well as other issues. The needed procedure was a multi level disc fusion as well as repairing facet joints. Dr. McGivney did not waste his time making promises of a positive outcome. Instead Dr. McGivney used his blessed hands and has completely changed my life. The surgery was done at Rush Copley with a three day hospital stay. Prior to the surgery I was up to (6) 7.5 mg. hydrocodone a day as well as gabapentin. The first couple of days were rough but a week after the surgery I am down to one 10 mg hydrocodone and somedays I break that in two. My orthopedist had warned me that Dr. McGivney was very straight forward and a great surgeon and he was 100% correct. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise he and his team are great. Try them and you will see for yourself!

He is not honest and left me hanging in pain due to my insurance not approving a back surgery I had scheduled with him.I didnt receive a call to tell me anything about the insurance company not approving surgery. When calling to find out what is going on within Castle Ortho I am told the surgery is not approved. His assistant was not helpful and when I asked to speak to Dr. McGivney, she stated that there is nothing they can do. I asked what are the next steps, I was told a different surgery was approved. Dr. McGivney told his assistant, Ashley to tell me to ‘Google’ who performs that surgery!!! I have gone through hell trying to jump through all the hoops to get approved for surgery and in pain everyday. Being told to ‘Google’a doctor is simply ridiculous. After calling the insurance company, the reasons given for denial is that he did not provide images showing my back issue. He did not tell me this. He just blamed the insurance company.DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. ‘USE GOOGLE‘

He did a great job with my husband's back surgery this year. When I first saw him some years ago, he was rather brusque, and told me whatever my problem was, it was not in my neck; that he could not help me. I have seen him recently for a back issue. He spent a lot of time with me and listened to everything I had to say. I appreciate his straight talk, and the fact that he does not push a surgical option unless it is the best solution.

Terrible doctor. Completely misdiagnosed my wife's condition. Told my wife he can't help and to leave his office. Then he charged us for the visit and now placed on credit report. What a low life.

Wish I could give this doctor a negative rating. Avoid him at all costs! Inappropriate body contact while examining me. Nothing but gross!! Went straight to pushing for surgery instead of trying less invasive methods. And the wait times at the office are absolutely agonizing...hours long!
