I'm about to join the '17-year Club' - having had my first hip re-surfacing in April of 2008. For nearly 17 years, it has not given me any pain or limitation of activity. As my left hip has since become arthritic to the point of needing intervention, I have passed on the opportunity to have a resurfacing done 'free of charge' by a good 'community care' provider through the Department of Veterans Affairs and NYU Langone and will happily write a check for the co-pay, travel to South Carolina from my home in New York, and use vacation time to have Dr. Gross perform the surgery; because I would trust no one else. Kudos to Lee Webb whose contribution to this procedure is often unstated but equally important - putting you back together the way God made you - after Dr. Gross' job is done. I understand hers' is a very special function that not all practitioners follow, and I have to attribute Dr. Gross' high success rate and the absence of any dislocation or other problems with my new hip to Dr. Gross' skill, Lee's meticulous work and the kind after-care I received in recovery. I remain grateful and - while surgery is not something I look forward to - it is less concerning because I know I'll be in good hands through every step of the procedure. Thank you.

Excellent Surgeon
Dr. Gross is a genuine and compassionate physician with a specific expertise not widely available..... hip resurfacing. He has completed over 7000 of these specific procedures with outcomes measures that are excellent. I've had my right hip resurfaced in 2012 and currently need my left one done. I am more confident in his abilities and skills now using his outcome measures as a standard comparison to other procedures. Excellent physician and surgeon. Highly recommend him for hip resurfacing.

Left hip resurfacing
Excellent surgeon but more importantly, he has empathy for his patients. For me that is important because the emotional part helps the physical in her recovery.

not likely
Appt. was at 2:00 but seen at 3:45. If you have been in an accident or overweight, do not bother seeing him. Most patients are over the age of 60 from what I observed in the waiting room (and had much time). Came in with a preconceived attitude toward my problem. Never reviewed the MRI or even asked what happened to me. Not very professional.

Hip Resurfacing #2
Dr. Gross and his team are great at what they do. They’re professional and thorough. I had my right hip resurfaced 10 years ago and have had such good success that I wanted to go back to have my left hip done.

Consultation
Dr. Gross was thorough in his assessment of my hip issues. He explained his diagnosis and treatment options. I had previously consulted him over the phone as I am not local to Columbia SC but it was worth the trip to see him in person for a better assessment as the problem with my hip was not readily apparent from imaging. He answered all my questions and presented my treatment options and the pros and cons of each. Would recommend him to anyone who has hip issues and are considering surgical intervention. Kudos to him and his team! Wish all service organizations, companies, or medical offices were as responsive as the team at Midlands Ortho!

Staff is courteous and skilled .Dr Gross is wonderful. He spent our visit talking to me , not looking at a computer. He answered all my questions, and I never felt he was in a hurry . He is obviously living his calling , and his patients are the lucky recipients of this . I drive 5 hours to see him due to his international reputation ,and send all my running friends .

Right hip resurfacing
As an out of state patient my experience from my first contact was amazing. Submitting records for review, scheduling, making sure I was prepared and anticipating needs, it all was efficient. Every staff person I had any level of engagement with was friendly and professional. Dr. Gross is a great communicator and skilled surgeon with an obvious concern about detail. He had very informatve historical data gathered and compiled for all prior procedures. In any conversation he made sure I had ko more questions and always made me feel my case was of paramount importance, never giving any indication of being in a hurry. His pain management protocol is well thought out and very effective. I am extremely grateful for the positive patient experience.

Dr gross resurfaced my left hip 12 years ago. I have had NO issues with it while racing dirtiest, water-skiing, mountain biking and gym work. I came back when my right hip gave up. He is the most pleasant, informative orthopedic surgeon I have met. I have met a few. I am so blessed to have met and been repaired by him
