He’s fine if all you need is someone to fill meds
I work in the medical field and I know what to expect from a psychiatrist. I realize they aren’t there to be your therapist. However, Dr. Gratzer did not meet the extremely low bar I had set for my appointments. Our initial intake was less than 15 minutes, and follow up appointments were less than 5. I wasn’t asked how my medication was working (Adderall) nor if I felt an adjustment was needed. I’m pretty sure my starting dose was way too high. He didn’t remember anything about me or have my chart pulled up when I came for my appointments. He certainly is knowledgeable and has lots of experience, but his “bedside manner” is nonexistent. He may just be an awkward person, but as a professional It comes off as uncaring and unprepared. I know psychiatrists are hard to find, but imo, you’re better off with someone else if you want one who is actively involved in finding the right treatment for you. Inevitably, after 3 visits I have moved on to a new provider.

Smarter than you think
I've been a patient for three years and at one point switched to a different provider. I realized that Dr Gratzer was smarter than I thought and have gone back. Sometimes abrupt and disorganized but he has been correct about the meds.

I didn't feel listened to or heard. He rushed through the appointment and cut me off every chance he could. He was unprofessional (literally started our second appointment with, "what's cookin'?" He was narcissistic and discussed his accolades every chance he could. He did not seem to have my goals in mind when treating me. He diagnosed conditions without even ensuring I met clinical criteria for them and still tried to push treatment for that condition even when I told him otherwise. He told me I couldn't possibly be experiencing the side effects I reported, which left me feeling invalidated. I was very disappointed with his care.

He seems to know medications well, but isn't necessarily a "people person." I went to him after being off of medication for depression for several years, so I already knew which medication worked well for me; he agreed to put me back on it when needed, so it was easy enough. He occasionally tries to make brief small talk, but then will jump right into diagnostic mode, which was off-putting at first. I generally don't mind his abrupt manner, though; I have a therapist with whom I can talk about my feelings and he just does the meds. His appointments tend to run about 20 minutes behind schedule regularly, and the actual appointment with him is usually only about 5 minutes long total. He's a nice enough guy, just not great with the social graces. Overall, he's not the best psychiatrist I've ever had, but also not the worst. So I give him a resounding...eh. *shrug*

He didn't treat my depression at all hardly- took over a year trying medications, and I was still suicidal! He doesn't genuinely care about anyone-he is old and burnt out. He just doesn't care about us.

My previous psychiatrist had retired and I was devastated. I went to see Dr. Gratzer and on my first visit he actually took the time to listen to me,he already knew my past history and what my issues were. He helped me immediately and I am forever grateful for him. He's a super nice and warm Doctor. I highly recommend him.

At my first appointment, I was told by reception to come 30 mins early to fill out some paperwork (as per usual). I finished in time for my appointment but it then took another 30 mins for Dr. Gratzer to come get me. There were 15 other patients sitting in the lobby waiting so I imagine this is not unusual for PsychRecovery or Dr. Gratzer in particular. I am quickly rushed to his office and he immediately asks if he can get a cup of coffee after he was already half an hour late. Calling him out

Made inappropriate and sexist comments to me regularly, and after I switched to another clinic and complained about him, he used my personal information to contact me, upset that I had reported his comments.

He is very good at managing my medications. He is a little hyper which could be a little overwhelming for some - but again I stress he was good at finding the right meds for me. He's not going to be a very warm gentleman. I figure that's what therapy is for. He doesn't want to hear about your problems. He's been very honest with me about his beliefs and feelings about different meds. I believe he is very competent. Just hyper and not warm and fuzzy. A good fit for me - probably not for some.

Dr. Gratzer made me so uncomfortable that I have decided not to return for any more follow-ups, risking running out of medication. He has made very weird inappropriate comments to me more than once and I would rather skip my medication refill appointments than have to go see him. Aside from comments he has made he is very "uppity"; he walks very fast and flails his arms while he walks, he talks fast, and it seems like he even thinks fast as most of my appointments are about 5 minutes long.

The Bad Dr. has written every one of the raving five-star reviews in 2016 since being fired for incompetency. My proof: they are all identical in form, feedback, most words and how he spoke (former patient who will be suing him also), no names included, the reviews were all negative in prior years and he has used those negative comments and turned them positive (brief and rushed is never good w/ controlled subs.). He is a quacks quack. No testing?just writes scripts while talking politics.

15 years of positive experience. Some may find his style somewhat unorthodox, but why must people equate different with bad? Based on my experience and that of the many who have seen him based on my recommendation, his results are excellent. Maybe if you prefer style over substance you should see someone else.
