Dr. Helsten is a great oncologist!
I have been seeing Dr. Helsten for oncology for the past 5 years. She spends as much time with me as I need. She listens to all of my questions and answers them with kindness and warmth but also with research and data in mind. If I have a problem or question, she and her team get back to me very quickly. I highly recommend UCSD for breast cancer care as well as Dr. Helsten.

Unfortunately I have been through cancer treatment before and had a wonderful oncologist. Now going through breast cancer I needed to have a great team. I was so happy to have found Dr. Helsten. She is approachable, compassionate, and up on the newest research. She takes her time and listens to all my questions and concerns. She has my complete trust. I would highly recommend her!

I have found her to be compassionate but also data-driven and rational. She will always provide the underlying research basis for a treatment recommendation, and why she thinks it should be/not be considered.

Dr. Helsten was one of the most compassionate and caring physicians that I have met since I was told about my invasive ductal breast cancer. She provided a thorough understanding of my prognosis and treatment modalities. I would highly recommend.

While our previous oncologist may not have been the most aggressive, he was extremely supportive, caring, and compassionate- always available by phone or email, and his office understood that when a cancer patient urgently requires a consult, they are not exaggerating in any way, shape or form. The lack of compassion and care demonstrated by Doctor Helsten should serve as a warning to all potential patients. Look out for your loved ones and consider other physicians.
