Dr. Steven Garlow, MD

My daughter left this man’s office in tears today. He was condescending, arrogant and lacked empathy. I cannot believe UW Psychiatry employs him! If you’re reading these reviews, believe them and find a different mental health professional. It’s very sad when a doctor acts this way, he definitely is in the wrong profession.

The man is a monster! The man needs to change professions. He has no sense of compassion and empathy or understanding of people going through a mental crisis! He is dismissive, arrogant, and narcissistic! I left more traumatized after being in his presence for help than when I came in for help!

Dr. Garlow should not be practicing. His blatant disrespect for patients and staff is highly disturbing. Dr. Garlow has no understanding of postpartum mood disorders. After my interaction with him I was more traumatized than when I came in. Dr. Garlow made a mockery of me as a patient accusing me that my marriage was falling apart, I was drug seeking, and told me I was wasting his time. UW- Madison should be ashamed that he is their employee.

The other reviewers are spot on. Garlow is a nightmare. Literally. He oozes apathy about patients desperate for help, and hostility towards those who attempt to gain an understanding of possible options for regaining a real life. I don't know how someone like this is allowed to work with such a vulnerable population. Every UW healthcare professional I spoke with has heard the SAME horror stories about Garlow from a number of their patients. I shudder to think of how many have and/or will give up on life, due to this man's indifference and incompetence.

The least caring person I’ve ever meant. Should not be in the healthcare field at all let alone in the psych ward where people are in crisis. Dismissed my diagnosed disabling condition and told me to “move on” from it, that I was hyperfixated on being an “ill person”.

This guy is about as arrogant , smug, and deaf as they come and insensitive

It's hard to imagine someone choosing to go into psychiatry when they seem to truly dislike humans as much as Dr. Garlow does. If you need a doctor whose personality pathology is far for severe than anything you've ever struggled with, this is the psychiatrist for you.

Very rude and impersonal. He was the worst personality I’ve had to work with in the mental health field.

He's rude condescending, sarcastic, demonstrates no empathy, and makes no effort to connect with his patients. He acted as if he couldn't be bothered to shake my hand. I just stood there awkwardly and then put my hand in my pocket. If he's not interested in patient interaction, he should stay in the lab. It seems very evident that he doesn't like people, or at least the people he looks down on - his patients.

Arrogant and condescending; extremely unhelpful and rude! Never made eye contact or listened to me. He did nothing to help and is dangerous because he holds so many vulnerable lives in his hands. His license should be revoked - his disinterest & cruelty will lead to someone's suicide if it hasn't already!
