Dr. Caritis is a maternal fetal medicine specialist I saw as a part of prenatal care. He consulted with me about my prospects for a vaginal birth after c-section and was extremely dismissive of my desire to even attempt such a thing. His responses to reasonable questions were belittling and abrupt during a time when I was feeling quite anxious and tender about birth. He made me feel like my questions and concerns about a subsequent c section were absurd. Were it not for the mfm doctor I saw after (I sought another doctor for follow up visits on purpose after this) and for the midwives at Magee, I would have surely felt too discouraged to even try to deliver my second child vaginally. I did not want to schedule a surgery and other medical providers agreed I was a good candidate for a vbac (which I had).

×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Caritis?
Dr. Caritis is dismissive and condescending. I would not recommend seeing this doctor if you have any choice in the matter at all. At a time when women need understanding and compassion, Dr. Caritis' attitude is a terrible quality. I made an appointment with him, and first saw a resident, who I spoke to for 45 minutes. Dr. Caritis did not enter the room until 45 minutes later, which caused me to have to repeat most of what I said to the resident. I spoke to him for about 10 awful minutes.
