Dr. Stephen Gunther, MD

One of the most nicest and empathetic orthopedic doctors I’ve met in a long time. Great bedside manner, didn’t play games with making me come back for another visit to try injections for my shoulder. Made me feel very comfortable with the steps he thought was the best. I can say, it’s been a long time since I’ve had a physician leave me feeling as if I were heard. Thank you!

He is very knowledgeable and courteous; he took the time to listen to my concerns and answer my questions. He explained everything thoroughly and I did not feel rushed by any means. He genuinely cares about his patients; I definitely recommend him!

Dr. Gunther performed a total right shoulder replacement on me Jan 30th this year and total left shoulder replacement June 5th. He was fantastic in every way. I enjoyed all interaction and best of all experienced zero pain after going home the following day, after both operations. I am a big sissy and never even had to take an aspirin ! The anesthesiologist group that supports him were also miracle workers. The nurses were great and my physical therapist could not be better. I would emphasize that I did not know or associate with any of them before my surgeries. I went to Gunther after a close friend had a great experience with a shoulder replacement. I have recommended him to two friends who are already lined up for operations -Chip Harding, Sheriff Albemarle County

I went in for a second opinion consult. I found Dr. Gunther knowledgeable but very dismissive and condescending. He would cut me off when I would start to ask questions and not answer question he did not think relevant. Though he confirmed the initial doctor's diagnosis, I would not go back to see him.

Shoulder injury that started 4 mth ago. I could not do daily activities and was not sleeping due to the pain. After a less than 5 minute exam I was told my joints were loose to go to PT and it'd heal. I was to continue taking the anti-inflammatory medication GP had prescribed, told him I had 2 days left I was told PT could write me a refill for it (they cant). PT feels there is a more severe injury that was missed. Horrible experience! He didn't listen to anything I said.

Does not spend enough time with patient, and is very condescending. Appears in a rush all the time, takes less than 2 minutes with the patient. Does not inspire confidence or respect.

After seeing over 100 doctors for my husbands heart disease, 2 rounds of lymphoma cancer, shingles, and assortated other complications from those and being 74 I can personally say I have rarely seen this type of care and attention. Please take the time to meet him and treat yourself to the care you deserve. You are the consumer!
