Review of Dr Barr
I went to several doctors who couldn’t diagnose my problem and one who told me nothing needed to be done and nothing could be done to relieve the pain and growing loss of function in my arm. After a couple years of increasing pain and frustration, I finally found Dr. Barr. He knew right off what was wrong and what needed to be done to fix it. He was very knowledgeable, a good listener, kind, affirming and he also has a sense of humor. I felt at ease and also felt that I could trust his diagnosis and plan for surgery to fix it. He helped me feel relaxed on the day of surgery which was huge for me as I sometimes have anxiety. The surgery went very well, and I am healing good and looking forward to rehab and having less pain and more functioning. I certainly would recommend this doctor for anyone with an orthopedic problem. He is excellent!

Caring practice and practitioner
Dr. Barr and the entire staff at Spectrum were so comforting and caring to work with while taking on my ACL reconstruction. Every nurse, scheduler, PA, PT, etc. that has helped me through my surgery and recovery has been extremely professional with wonderful bedside manner. This is my first injury and hopefully my last, but I am really grateful for the care I was and have been provided.

So grateful
I injured my left knee a month ago. Decided to call and get an appointment not knowing Dr. Barr as I just moved back to Maine and needed to find a new doctor. Within a few weeks I was seen twice had an MRI and had arthroscopic knee surgery for a torn Meniscus! My care was impeccable by Dr. Barr and his team! They listen to all my questions and concerns, communicating beautifully! Dr. Barr is fabulous and will be my surgeon of choice with any future orthopedic needs. I highly recommend him!!

Dr. Barr performed right hip pin surgery following a fall in 2017. In May 2019, he replaced the hollow pins with solid pins when I complained the original pins were chafing my IT band. Soon thereafter, I developed ever-increasing pain. In February of 2020, an MRI suggested necrosis. Unable to bear the pain any longer, I scheduled a total right hip replacement with Dr. Barr. He indicated we would do an anterior approach and perform a "modified Harding technique" which he described as performed since the '70s and which he had studied from its innovator. In fact, though, he performed the surgery through the lateral/posterior scars of the hip pin surgery. Following the surgery, I began to experience terrible pain. Dr. Barr indicated it would take 3 months to a year to fully heal from the hip replacement. He did not diagnose or failed to disclose that my sciatic nerve had been crushed during the surgery with downstream effects on the peroneal and tibial nerves, with a 2 year recovery, maybe

I sought treatment from orthopedic as a last resort for a suspected neurogenic issue. While Dr Barr is an orthopedic surgeon, he saw me. Immediately ordered imaging which no one else would... GP, ED... And diagnosed a very tricky issue quickly because HE LISTENED TO ME!! He's a brilliant physician but he treated me with kindness and compassion. He's one of the best doctors I've ever had.

Steve Barr's assessment and treatment of my daughter's injury was insufficient and thus caused more damage and subsequent surgeries (from a qualified surgeon). He did not order an MRI, even though the signs and symptoms indicated that there was a high potential for soft tissue damage (there was a full tear of a ligament). I was the one who suggested and pushed for the MRI. The office notes in the portal did not match our in-office conversations. I would highly recommend you find a different surgeon as not only did he not help my daughter, he is responsible for making the injury worse! The surgeon who did help my daughter, asked after her surgery, if it was an orthopedic surgeon who did the first procedure as his work was so poor.

I feel myself lucky to have gotten Dr. Barr as my surgeon when I broke my hip. As a runner himself, he had great empathy for my concerns as a marathoner. He is an excellent communicator - both listening and explaining. He and the whole office team are very upbeat and responsive. I never feel that he is rushing through the visit. He takes whatever time I need. I feel he genuinely is committed to seeing me return to my former level of running.

I was referred to Dr. Barr because he was recommended when I went to Mercy ED with knee pain at 8 am. Dr. Barr's office got me in at 1pm that same afternoon! I found Dr. Barr to be pleasant, kind, and compassionate. He listened to me attentively and was very personable. I'm a medical professional and very critical of physicians when they lack communication skills and/or empathy. He was accommodating and able to work around my work schedule to get me in for a procedure. So glad I found him!

Dr.Barr was great... would recommend him to anyone needing to see a orthopedic Dr. on a call in/ emergency room visit follow up. Not knowing him or his reputation, I googled him to see his reviews, most were not that great, I highly disagree with what I read! Dr. Barr was very compassionate and listened to our concerns, his staff was wonderful a well.

Nice facility, office and clinical staff all just fine. But the Dr (Barr) himself? Not so much. I didn't feel like he listened to me very well, or like he thought my case beneath his ability. Any way, his interest in my well being seemed feigned at best, just a step or two down from TV's Dr House-style bedside manner.

I found Dr. Barr less than professional in both his communication skills and attention during patient examination. He didnt write a note on my first visit; did not remember my concerns at second consultation. In my portal record, he noted a number of suggestions never mentioned in our meeting (eg. specifi exercises). When I tried to explain what my primary concern was, he never faced me but continued typing on his computer.

Poor response time to telephone calls if they bother to return the call at all. If you need a response, you'd be better off going to the ER. They're not overly concerned if you're in pain
