I am happy with Dr Tao office staff and tech but one thing I can't stand the gum chewing by one of receptionist first thing you see when you walk in it's gross

Intrusive
Felt like he didn't listen to me. Spoke to me as if I was a child about going blind. Invaded personal space and placed his hands over my eyes without warning when he spoke down to me about what it meant to be blind. Did not prefer his methods or bedside manner.

Dr Tao is one of the finest doctors I have ever had the privilege to meet. He listened to me and my broken heart because I have recently lost my mother, husband and have a son dying of cancer. Dr Tao always puts a smile on your face and a laugh in your heart no matter how difficult a day you may be having.

My only complaint is that Dr. Tao is easily distracted. I always need to reign him in to ask more of my questions.

Would give zero stars if I could. I had surgery performed by Dr. Shah, a colleague of his (who is a great, five star doctor), and he wasn't able to see me for my next day follow up, so I had to see him instead. I felt rushed and he didn't want to answer any of my questions. His assistant did all the work and gave me the print outs and he came in for literally one minute and said 'gas bubble and eye look great' and didn't even look in my eye to examine it and was aggrevated when I asked him a question about positioning. Fortunately, he didn't perform the surgery and if Dr. Shah isn't available for a furture appointment, I'm going to ask to see another colleague

I have been seeing Dr. Tao for 6 months. I was having several major issues in both eyes. I would not go to anyone else! He was clear and concise with diagnosis’. Surgery and treatments went quite well. His stated motto to me was to get me the best eye sight and care that he can provide.

Condescending and arrogant
I've seen Dr. Tao several times in the last two years. I have been a little wary of his "bedside" manner in the past but my appointment yesterday was the worst I've experienced in years. He was condescending, talking down to me like I was a child. Chiding me for being a type A personality who is not accepting that my eyes are no longer 40 years old. I am 58 and having some issues that are affecting me while I'm working as a professional pianist. I tried to bring this to his attention and he scoffed saying he knows many pianists in their 70's and 80's who play the piano just fine with age-related issues. Then he went on a rant about hepatitis A in San Diego because the homeless people keep pooping in the streets and on the sidewalks. I will be canceling my upcoming appointment and looking for a new ophthalmologist.

Knowledgeable physician
Very good retinal specialist. My family and I go to him and I’ve referred many others to him. 4/5 star rating because masking isn’t always practiced by ProMedica staff (or enforced with patients), even though it’s their clearly stated policy. I’ve also seen open bottles of eyedrops on the counter in exam rooms on more than one occasion.

Would rather give no stars. Saw him from 3 years then finally went to Cleveland Clinic and got diagnosed with cancer in my eyes. Was losing my vision and he couldn't do anything to help me for that long. Besides referring me to a rheumatologist. My mom saw him recently and I went with. He talked over her. She couldnt saw anything. His care for patients lacks. He is to much in a hurry.

I had a foreign object in my eye in which I could barely see and had significant pain. He took the time to make sure he covered everything and found a small piece of grass underneath my eyelid. Once he easily removed it, I felt 100% better. Thank you!

Great eye surgeon, very professional, makes you feel at ease, answers questions thoroughly, asks which office location is more convenient for me, not him. Scheduled surgery for a detached retina was for 1:30 PM and he did not arrive until 3 but that was due to scheduling of operating rooms; the surgery before mine was scheduled at St. V's in downtown Toledo and the surgery prior to mine was at Flower Hospital in Sylvania which is also much closer to where I live than St. V's.
