I delivered my baby at Swedish in 2022. I saw the midwives up until my 35th week when I was switched to the OBGYNs the day of my induction due to preeclampsia. I saw a couple or obgyn's who were all great. However I had issues with Dr. Brown. If you have anxiety or panic attacks: I would not recommend. I'm trying to figure out a good word to use and sound descriptive. But the only word I can use is: she's mean. My panic attacks were well managed considering my circumstance (high blood pressure not going down) which surprised myself and my husband. She kept trying to push anxiety meds on me, even when I repeatedly said no. After my weeklong hospital stay due to my blood pressure not being stable I was released. The midwives and other OBs always encouraged me to call in if I had ANY concern, which was always hard for me to do because I felt like a nuisance but they kept reassuring me it was okay and encouraged. One night right before midnight my blood pressure dropped very low and I felt ill (I was on a lot of blood pressure medicine). I called the 24 hour line and she was the OB on call who was paged. She continued to berate me about "this isn't a middle of the night call". "You need to get your anxiety in order because this is too much", just a bunch of really hurtful remarks. I have never EVER been talked like that from a medical professional. I hung up, cried all night and was so worried and scared about my blood pressure. Clearly I woke her up from her slumber, and obviously she took that out on me. Whenever a pregnant friend asks about my experience with Swedish I will FOREVER mention how hurt I was, being a new mom, my baby wasn't even home with me because he was a premie, I was suffering from blood pressure issues, post partum issues, and that was the amount of empathy she had for me as my doctor and as a person. She was also the same amount of weeks pregnant as me, I truly hope her labor and delivery and post partum were soft and caring for her, because if she was treated how she treated me, I know how hurtful it is.

Dr. Brown is an outstanding doctor. Shortly after finding out I was pregnant, I had complications arise. I was referred to Dr. Brown by the SC Midwives, who were concerned about a life-threatening condition. Dr. Brown went above and beyond to find out what was going on. She spoke to me with compassion, and she addressed every anxiety I brought up. She is knowledgeable and kind, and she genuinely cares about the people she practices on. Thank you, Dr. Brown.
