Calm, friendly & reassuring
I saw Dr. Chung for prenatal care when my original OBGYN wasn't available and she also checked in on me during my (slow) induced delivery and post-partum. She was always super friendly, supportive, calm, and reassuring. My partner and I both really liked her and felt like she prioritized our needs and comfort during an otherwise anxious time. Her bedside manner is by far better than my original OB, in fact!

Absolute worst experience
I made an annual appointment and was scheduled with Shirley Chung. She made it a point to tell me she was filling in and her office was elsewhere. She asked an hour's worth of questions, and when she didn't like my answers, she became incredibly condescending and gave me a squeaky voice and a look as if she didn't believe me. She kept commenting on my weight, which is not her job, and never having seen me before, she assumed I had a problem. I've been the same weight for 20 years. She stunned me by stating that 'my skin would look better if I gained weight' which is inappropriate, insulting, and not her business. She recommended I speak to my primary regarding a bone density test, (something he and I had discussed), and I agreed to follow up. Clearly, she had no faith in my ability to relay the information properly, or she thought I would simply ignore the request because she called my primary doctor herself. I found Ms. Chung to be arrogant, condescending, and obnoxious.

Wonderful experience
Shirley Chung did phenomenal work delivering our daughter via cesarean section. Dr. Chung is incredibly pleasant, informative, and reassuring. We knew we were in good hands. Our daughter was delivered at Beth Israel where a student was learning about cesarean deliveries. We agreed to have the student observe our delivery experience with Dr. Chung as her guide. This was a wonderful learning experience for the student and Dr. Chung was great at explaining everything every step of the way. Post recovery I've healed nicely and had minimal discomfort. Thank you so much Dr. Chung for the wonderful work you did and for delivering our sweet baby girl into this world. We appreciate the work you do!

I'm very grateful to Dr. Chung for saving my life via an emergency c-section during the early days of the pandemic. I feel very fortunate that she happened to be on shift when I went into labor that turned out to be life threatening. She was calm and level-headed and acted quickly to give me the surgery I needed just in time.

Frankly Dr. Chung was awful all around. She was frustrated with my long labor with my first child and neglected every request I had. I ended up having an emergency c-section because her "shift was ending." Also, my child had scars on her head to this day (missing hair) where Dr. Chung used sharp vacuum tool. She also made inappropriate comments to my birthing partner. One along the lines of "I wonder how she got pregnant being so modest." Avoid her at all costs.
