She will bill you if you send her a Message
When to Dr Bao. She seemed knowledgeable about diabetes. I sent her a message about my medication via the MyHealthAtVanderbilt app. She then proceeded to bill me $100 for a 'Virtual Visit.' I had never seen this woman or spoken to her over the phone or video. I literally sent her what constitutes as an email. Bill says: 'Continuous Glucose Monitoring Analysis' she basically looked at my digital glucose meter data she downloaded when first met without actually explaining what she was doing. and 'Online Digital EM Svc' She answered my question via MyhealthatVanderbilt and called a prescription in.

I wish I had not seen this doctor
Telehealth
My appointment with this doctor was really awful. I was referred by genetics at Vanderbilt and yet she had no knowledge of the gene. Oddly, she also spent time disputing that the pathogenic gene matters (without knowing what it was). She also actually told me autoimmune antibodies do not affect thyroid function and that's completely false. She had zero curiosity to listen to my concerns and spoke over me continuously. She said she only aims to get numbers to normal range for different labs and was she not concerned about symptoms. I told her I feel worse on certain thyroid meds despite trying multiple times and she told me they have no side effects. So it was basically being told over and over it doesn't matter how I feel or what I am concerned about.

Dr. Bao was not thorough. Told me I had Hoshimoto’s and needed no treatment or further testing at this time. She didn’t know why I was swelling (hormonal) but it wasn’t bc of Hoshimoto’s. She disregarded a nuclear scan I had done in which the radiologist recommended a pituitary MRI. My primary care insisted I have the MRI. Results showed that I have a cluster of 3 adenomas in my pituitary gland. I will not be returning to Dr. Bao again.

Very pleased with Dr. Bao’s thorough explanation and kind demeanor today. She had great advice regarding other conditions. She was very organized and clear even drawing out information. I also like her philosophy of treatment which seems conservative. Lastly, I like that all of Vanderbilt’s information is stored and shared within their system of doctors and with me who can look at my information at anytime. Very easy to keep up with medical information and streamlines treatment.

She took a little getting used to but I learned that she is just wonderful. She is so smart and she takes the time to show you how to do things. Contrary to what the other person said, I find her to be on the same level as other Vanderbilt doctors in that she is sharp, knowledgeable, and she takes her time with you. I highly recommend Dr. Bao. You cannot go wrong with her.

Like many of the Dr's at Vanderbilt (which I was shocked to learn), she is in my opinion less than average even though she has a sweet personality.
