Dr. Smalls Stokes took over Dr. Hill's practice at Novant Rowan Regional Hospital and was simply assigned to her. I have sleep apnea and Dr. Hill did several sleep studies on me and set me up with a CPAP during my second sleep study Dr. Hill woke me up and told me I had an additional problem as my oxygen desaturates while I'm sleeping into the low 70's. He added an oxygen concentrator to my CPAP machine. My very first appointment with Dr. Smalls Stokes she did not meet with me at all I met with a nurse or PA, I don't remember. Dr. Smalls Stokes relayed the message through her nurse PA she was taking me off the nightly oxygen. I refused telling the nurse PA I had been on oxygen for over 5 years and that Dr. Smalls Stokes hadn't bothered to come in and meet me therefore, I would not go off the oxygen as I did not trust her judgement. It's 10 years now and I have only seen Dr. Smalls Stokes twice, otherwise I see a technician or a PA. Still on oxygen and looking for a new doctor.

I had my first appointment with Dr. Stokes today. Right from the start, she just walked in and seemed annoyed as she coldly introduced herself. I already struggle with anxiety so this behavior made me feel like I was burdening her and resulted in my anxiety becoming triggered. Dr. Stokes began asking me questions and when I started to answer her, if I didn't answer with a direct response she immediately cut me off, put her hand up with her palm facing me as if to indicate to stop and with a frustrating tone asked me to answer the question and then made a comment about if I have a history with anxiety in a condescending manner. With my anxiety more heightened, it became clear to me that she was absolutely not interested in hearing me or understanding why I was coming to see her today. I am sad that I was prevented from having an open dialogue about my diagnosed sleeping disorder but I submitted to her lead in fear of being rejected more. The bottom line is, she simply referred me to mental health and that is really disappointing and more disheartening that I expressed that I already have a therapist whom I see weekly.

0 stars My 1st appt with her and will never go bk. She & her nurse had NO compassion. I came for a 2nd opinion, & was (literally), fussed at and I don't mean in a quiet tone, even through my tears & apologies. I told her that I had worked for many Dr's and never a 1 treated their patient's like that. What I had to say didn't matter to she or her nurse. 30 min vs 1hr appt did matter! I had taken up their time. I was so humiliated and confused! Plz treat people with compassion! Amazing front staff

Dr. Smalls-Stokes gets a rough rap coming behind Dr. Hill. She is to the point & I believe this makes for misunderstanding her. She is thorough and knowledgable. I had to cancel my April 4th appt. and was unable to give proper notice.Dr. Small-Stokes does a great job as my sleep doctor. The staff in her office does a great job as well, especially the person who's name slips mind but she truly watches over Dr. Small-Stokes, but she personally contacts you upon missing an scheduled appt.
