Dr. Shawn Stevens, MD

Dr. Stevens has no respect for his patients. He will tell them anything to get them committed to surgery, and then often times cancells follow up appointments without even telling the patient. Examples: My first appointment with Dr. Stevens he told me surgery would be in two to four weeks, but when scheduled it was ten weeks after my initial appointment. I had a follow up appointment scheduled for October 10th and a few weeks before the appointment I got a text message about a December 17th appointment. When I called to check on the second appointment I was told the October 10th appointment had been cancelled and rescheduled for December 17th, but nobody bothered to notify me of the cancellation. Now I have received another text notice of a December 19th appointment with Dr. Stevens, with no explaination what it is for. Dr. Stevens has no idea what is going on in his office, and apparently doesn't care. He's been told of these problems but hasn't solved them.

This review involves scheduling and staff misinformed regarding health insurance plans accepted by Dr Stevens. I provided my health insurance information 3 months ago and staff told me they accepted my health insurance. I double checked at least 3 times prior to my appointment with explicit information regarding my plan, because it was not listed on their website. Fast forward 3 months: I received a phone message stating my plan is out of network and they canceled my appointment. Extremely frustrating.

This review has nothing to do with the professionalism of Dr. Stevens. However I think that any medical doctor is in some way responsible for the behavior of his entire team. This is a review about only one person, her name is Carmen. I just want to share my experience of how rude and abusive this person was at the time when she was making my appointment with the doctor. Also the mystery happened when I came to the office at the scheduled time and heard that my appointment does not exist. Try to guess why it was deleted and who could have done this?

After four years of research and visits with several Neuro Otolaryngology doctors regarding a cochlear implant, my choice was the best for me, Dr Shawn Stevens at Barrow Neurological Institute. I am 100% satisfied. Dr Steven's surgical team was exceptional. Dr Stevens has the best professional skills and is a superb communicator. My rating- 10+

I have visited Dr. Stevens for the first time a few days ago. What a pleasure! Dr. Stevens and his staff are a real team and I appreciated their skill and kindness.

Dr. Stevens gave me the best care that I could have ever received! He was thorough in his explanations, careful in surgery to do the very best for me, and available for questions before and after surgery. His assistant, Kelly, was also spectacular in relaying information to Dr. Stevens and getting back to me quickly with answers. I am thankful to have had such great care from him and his team!

Dr Stevens is the most caring doctor my husband and I have ever encountered. His skills in diagnosing and planning a procedure as complicated as my husband’s was second to none. We are forever grateful for what he did for my husband.

He saved my life by finding a huge cyst in mastoid bone my other doctors missed. Then returned hearing in that ear. He is kind and caring. He talks to you not over your head. He is a true gift of god. Ruth Stedman 72 years old.

After more than three years of research & attending meetings I heard Dr. Stevens at a Cochlear Company informational meeting and made the decision to get a cochlear implant (bi-modal with a special hearing aid in one ear.) Dr. Stevens listened to me in depth during a couple of pre-surgery meetings. Recovery from this surgery was not painful as I had expected and once the implant was 'turned on' 3 weeks later I could hear complete sentences, albeit sounding initially like Minnie Mouse on a transistor just behind my ear. Life changing. Very grateful to Dr. Stevens for his surgical gifts and to his staff, esp. Lisa Thompson, Aud.

After traveling to San Diego (from Phoenix) for surgery to remove an acoustic neuroma, I unfortunately, acquired an infection in the wound upon returning home. Thankfully, my out of state doctors set me up with Dr. Stevens. Ultimately, I ended up having to have a second surgery. Dr. Stevens took over my case, no questions asked, and was able to provide with me the most thorough and attentive care. He is both extremely professional and personable. I feel he truly cares for his patients and their well-being!
