When you have nurses telling you …. you are in good hands …. You know you are with the best. I went into this surgery knowing that Dr. McKenzie would do his best to “fix” me.

If I could give Dr. McKenzie 10 stars, I would. He is not only a highly skilled surgeon but a kind and compassionate professional. Dr. McKenzie has always given his full attention to me as a patient, asking pertinent questions and listening intently to my answers. I feel he is passionate about all his patients and stays involved with their recovery long after their surgery. Whenever I've had problems or questions, I've been able to call him. He personally has called me back to respond. I have known few doctors who can put a patient at ease while being wholly focused on their full recovery. I count myself as very lucky and blessed to be in the care of such a fine doctor. I highly recommend Dr. McKenzie to anyone needing his surgical specialties.

Dr. Shaun McKinzie is an amazing surgeon with Texas Oncology Surgeons. My wife, Sue, was diagnosed with a rare cancer in the digestive system that only .5 percent of cancer patients ever get. After meeting Dr. McKinzie for the first time we had total confidence in him. Dr. McKinzie will answer all of your questions and has a calm bedside manner reflecting confidence in himself and his surgical team. This is something that we wanted to hear from him as he used complex and intricate Whipple surgery, one of the most difficult of all cancer surgeries. Dr. McKenzie has performed over 300 Whipple surgeries which qualifies him with great knowledge and expertise. Dr. McKenzie’s follow-up with Sue after the surgery was extraordinary and over a great deal of time. Dr. McKenzie’s nursing staff at St. David’s Main Hospital are outstanding and second-to-none incredible! Dr. McKenzie treated Sue like one of his family members throughout the entire experience! Dr. McKenzie has been my daughter's surgical oncologist for about a year now and we have always loved the care he has provided. He is thorough, knowledgeable and really cares about his patients. He takes the time to explain what is happening and answers all your questions.

Dr. McKenzie is a superb communicator, answering all my questions and never making me feel rushed. He gave me a thorough description of my potential surgery, more so than any physician has ever done for me. Additionally he is extremely well trained, technically astute and performed a very complex surgery on me with zero complications. The bonus is that he is immensely kind and caring with a very supportive staff. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

Although I was asleep during much of our association, during my visits pre and post surgery, l found him to be caring, sincere and sensitive to the needs of his patient. His surgery skills removed a tumor from a difficult location. I have recovered in good form from a situation that if left untreated would have been considerably more difficult and unpleasant to treat.

Dr. McKenzie is a cancer liver surgeon. He knows his stuff. Excellent surgeon, great staff and his 'bedside manner' is what you wished all doctors were like. Very personable and upbeat. He has had to perform two surgeries on me with no ill effects and getting the cancer. Also, I healed quickly. If I ever have to undergo this type of surgery again, Dr. McKenzie is my surgeon.

My visits with Dr McKenzie is always very comforting. He is very attentive and really listens and definitely cares about his patients. He explains everything about what your surgery will entail.

Dr. McKenzie removed both colon and liver cancers last August. He saved my life! The recovery has been difficult as the procedure was extensive with many side effects. Along the way, Dr. McKenzie has been on top of my case seeing me many times. During my most recent visit, we were deciding whether to operate to correct a likely colon issue. Having reviewed my recent CT scan, blood work, and current condition, he recommended we cancel the operation (hopefully forever) and concentrate on correcting some leg blood clots that are causing edema and can be dangerous.

He did an excellent job of explaining what my medical issue was, and what the process to take care of the issue. His confidence in the success of my surgery was very reassuring and helped with my nerves as to what I was facing.

In light of my diagnosis and need for care, Dr McKenzie knew exactly how I should be treated and gave me complete confidence in his ability to do so. He explained the entire process to me and made time to answer all of my questions. The surgery was successful and my recovery has gone very well, which is a testament to how good he is as a surgeon.

Dr. McKenzie performed what turned out to be a somewhat challenging abdominal surgery on me. He did an excellent job and provided wonderful follow up care. I fond his staff to be compassionate, thorough and efficient. I would highly recommend Dr. McKenzie and his team to anyone contemplating a surgical procedure!
