You Will Just Be A Number
I felt considerable pressure from Dr Byrd to agree to a lobectomy from their network surgeon (Covenenant Health), even though other more reputable healthcare facilities and surgeons considered me a candidate for less radical lung-sparing surgery. Some suggested surgery might not even be necessary at all! On my second office appointment, Dr Byrd asked if I had scheduled surgery (lobectomy). I simply was not ready to make that decision based on one surgical encounter. I was just a number. There was a palpable change in demeanor and decreased cooperation from Dr Byrd and staff after they discovered I sought second opinions from doctors outside their network. Isn’t it my business if I want to seek other opinions, particularly when there are differing opinions on the urgency (or even the necessity) for major thoracic surgery? Why should a confident and competent medical professional feel insecure or threatened if a patient seeks additional resources? Office communication is horrible.

Dr Byrd has treated me for COPD for several years now. I fully believe that if weren't for her and her staff, I wouldn't be alive today. I can't say enough about the excellent treatment and concern that she has shown for me.

Saw Dr Byrd 3 times, was very pleased with results. Holly (PA) also did a good job and seemed very up to date on all my test and explained all treatments. Dr Byrd went over all my symptoms, what caused them and my instructions. AGAIN, VERY HAPPY WITH VISITS.

Sister 30 went to Dr due to scarring in her lungs. A friend attended the meeting with her. We received the notes back due to the quick progression in 3 weeks from small scarring in left lung to significantly scarred where it's pulling on her heart. Previously no signs of scarring in right to signs of scarring. The dr didn't listen to patient and derived her own opinions that can detrimentally affect her future treatments. Mother had IPF died 7 mo. later Adv. to wait for 3 months for another CT
