Dr. Shanglei Liu, MD

Some other surgeon did emergency surgery on me a few months back and left me with an ostomy, then told me he can't put me back together again. I went to Dr. Liu as my last hope and he saved my life. His hands are like magic and he put me back together. It wasn't easy to recover from but finally I can feel like a normal human being again. Thank you Dr. Lou!

I have been under Dr. Loy’s care since undergoing chemo for rectal cancer. He does all my scopes and recently performed a TAMIS surgery to ressect tumor regrowth. I had been warned from other surgeons that recovery would be tough as I had received radiation. But Dr. Lou’s skill ensured a smooth and painless recovery. Dr. Liu was absolutely excellent. From just a few minutes of talking to him you just knew that he was one of those people that was so brilliant and thoughtful that he could've done anything in life but I am SO LUCKY he chose to be a doctor. I had pain for years and was passed around by so many doctors but Dr. Liu was able to find the problem in my colon and performed (robotic) surgery that was LIFE CHANGING. I finally have my life back and I can travel again without worrying about getting hospitalized while I'm away from home. Thank you Dr. Liu!!!

The only reason why I stay with UCSD is for Dr. Liu. The health system is so cumbersome but Dr. Liu makes up for all of it and more. He's honestly the smartest human being I've met and has incredibly gifted hands for a surgeon. I'm 5 years out, cancer free, loving every moment with my family. Thank you very much Dr. Liu!

He was such a kind and thoughtful doctor. I've seen a lot of doctors and Dr. Liu was the best. He really understood how scary it was to have a bad disease and he answered all my questions. I am blessed to have him as my surgeon.

NO OTHER SURGEON was willing to operate on me because my case was "too risky" or "too hard." Dr. Liu saw me, had a plan, followed through, and most importantly, gave me HOPE!!! 6 months and 2 surgeries later, I'm finally BACK TO NORMAL! THANK YOU FOR GIVING MY LIFE BACK!
