Dr. Shanda Lewis, MS

Shand Lewis demonstrates a lack of empathy and disregards parental feedback regarding proven effective treatments. Treatments noted in a patient file to work are disregarded by her. She prioritizes her own assessment over past successful medical interventions, leading to concerns about patient care. Due to this, we will refuse treatment under her care and request transfer to another hospital if assigned to her.

My 5 day old daughter was unfortunately under the care of Dr. Lewis during an ED visit and I have never been treated with such a lack of empathy and respect. She gave us very scary news (which was later confirmed to be inaccurate at JSUMC) without providing any education about the severity of her injury, what the results meant for her short term or long term health, and told us transfer to our preferred hospital could take up to 6 hours, even though this was an emergent situation requiring specialized treatment that CentraState was not equipped to provide. Dr. Lewis created an extremely traumatic experience for my family unnecessarily and did not offer any comfort or support. I would never again be treated by this doctor or facility. When we were transferred to our facility of choice (within 30 mins, not 6 hours), we were immediately met with empathetic providers who assured us our baby would be okay, gave us extensive education of the severity of her case, and discharged us home.
