He tells it like it is
Dr. Teitelbaum is a straight shooter. He can see through people's denials and rationalizations very well. He is not a perfect man- none of us are- but he is very good at what he does, and he tries his best to push people in a positive direction and challenge them to do better.

I don't understand how you're still practicing
You do not help people feel safe enough to heal, and healing our childhood trauma is vital to legitimately recovering from addiction. You also failed to diagnose my autistic PDA, even after I was partially hospitalized for three long months at Shand's, under your care, back in 2006. You actually asked me one day if I'm a c0n artist; nope - I'm actually a severely traumatized autie with cptsd and what you ignorantly witnessed was autistic masking - you're just really NOT a good doctor. I'm sober now, btw, and I owe absolutely NO thanks to you for my hard-earned sobriety. You do far more harm than good, as is evidenced by multiple reviews here, and I sincerely feel you should probably rethink your career choice.

Areas for Improvement
Dr. T is very good at convincing the state medical boards he cares about patients. Other than that he has zero skills as a provider. He violated psychotherapist-patient and Doctor patient confidentiality. When I threatened litigation, the University of Florida’s lawyers got involved and simple had a bigger budget. Avoid at all cost, but you won’t be able to because if you have to see him you are probably a healthcare provider forced into his care. His “evaluations” are a revenue enhancement strategy for the treatment center he runs. Read the rest of the reviews if you think I am exaggerating. He does not help anyone get better.

It has been over 20 years since my experience with Dr. (I use the term 'Dr. loosely'). He is an embarrassment to the medical profession. I cannot believe how the preponderance of negative reviews have been not only been repeatedly deleted, but that professional due diligence review and action has not been taken to remove him from the profession.

Very full of himself.
Began the interview by saying “do you know who I am??” I did not, so he was very offended. And after researching his credentials, I was still unimpressed. A very small man with an oversized ego.

Arrogant
Spent little time on evaluation. Did not get any collateral information or use DSM V criteria resulting in costly misdiagnosis.

Among the Best Addiction Medicine has to Offer
I attended FRC in 2006-2007 and again in 2019 when I sustained a relapse after 10+ years of sobriety. Without Dr. Ken Thompson (former medical director), Dr. Scott Teitelbaum (current medical director) and their multifaceted team of clinicians and experts in addiction psychiatry, I most likely would have joined the many others who have succumbed from this disease. It was not until recently I fully came to appreciate how fortunate I was to have been afforded the opportunity to attend FRC for treatment. It saddens me to see some of the disparaging comments and unfounded negative reviews written by people who are obviously as sick, angry and resentful as I was when I was placed under a Marchman Act by Dr. Teitelbaum in 2006. In my opinion, UF's Florida Recovery Center is among the best programs addiction psychiatry has to offer. Not only did this program preserve my licenses to practice law and veterinary medicine, they saved my life. And for that, I am forever grateful.

I am myself, a physician director of a large medical program, and I recently found myself as a patient at the Florida Recovery Center, under the direction of Dr. Scott Teitelbaum. Having spent a good portion of my career at some of the top medical centers in the Northeast, I know a thing about academics and medical directors, and I can now say that Dr. Teitelbaum is the right doctor for the job...he can seem tough at times but Addiction Medicine is a tough field and he has the perfect attributes. He has an uncanny way of figuring out his patients and he is downright "street smart" with an amazing memory (I witnessed him remembering infinitesimal detail of every single patient's history and there were over 100!). I quickly learned that any mistruths will be figured out in no time, so it's always best to leave any BS at the door, otherwise you will be called out! This is undoubtedly the reason for those many negative reviews that he has compiled by others! Being from New York City myself, I quickly recognized him as a fellow New Yorker and wondered if he is somewhat misunderstood in the South. Regardless, he is very personable, a great listener, and empathetic to the concerns of fellow patients, and I do believe that his program is the finest in America. Other talented FRC medical professionals who were on my team and who were greatly appreciated included Drew Mehall, Rachel Waters, Tim Christensen, David Fields, Katie Walker and especially Dr's Smolen and Gropper.

As soon as I drove into the parking lot in a new Lincoln Navigator, I felt that the major mission of the facility and Teitelbaum was to empty my bank account. Incorrect diagnoses, an attempt to have my license suspended with no basis, and a general disregard for anything I said certainly gave me pause to consider whether my well being was even a factor to the involved individuals.

I had a 4 day eval with the FRC team and Dr. T specifically. While it was extremely stressful as I was wrongfully accused - I found the team and Dr T to be professional, accommodating, empathetic, and kind. Given my history of anxiety and depression - I came away very impressed with the system in place for physicians. Thank you to the FRC and Dr T. I appreciate you all.

I had a 4 day comprehensive IPN evaluation at FRC with Dr. Teitelbaum. It was very stressful and Dr. Teitelbaum does not sugar coat your behavior and he will call you out on your character defects. I have repeatedly messed up in IPN but I think Dr Teitelbaum could tell I want recovery and am willing to do whatever it takes. He made me feel scared that I would lose my license and perhaps he knew that scare would benefit me and help me wake up! In the end Dr. Teitelbaum gave me another chance to stay in IPN and keep my license. The experience although stressful has helped my recovery.

If you need help don't go to FRC where Scott Teiteibaum is the medical director. He retraumatized me over and over again. Having a tryrant bully you is unacceptable. It took me a long time to come to terms with what happened at that facility. Recovery is about love and acceptance. His approach is shame based and harmful to the patient. FRC should hold him accountable for the harm he has done patients. It is shocking that they allow him to Continue to practice this way.
