Dr Van Tassel always operates at the highest professional level. In fact, she is one of the best if not the best doctor I have seen over the years. Strong medical skills at every level, from the operating room to the more normal examination experiences. She is not afraid to treat complex issues and this is a critical skill for successful patient outcomes.

Dr Van Tassel simply wonderful
My concern is with the visual field room. It is crowded, no place to keep your things, it is noisy, too many people taking the test at the same time. Room is dark which makes going in and out treacherous. The eye patch is being used over and over across patients, it is loose, and a cesspool for eye infection. Staff is not quite happy when I request a patch that I use and discard, while they do give to me somewhat reluctantly. For a hospital of this stature your visual field room in grade at a zero.I saw a new fellow (I believe) for the first time. Don't remember his name. His examination techniques were rough, there was utter lack of empathy for a glaucoma patient of 40 years (I have glaucoma since I was 25 years old). There was a lack of fundamental understanding that glare in the eye for someone with that many years of glaucoma and 4-5 surgeries is very difficult to handle. I had to back away, told him his examination techniques are too harsh. He finished his exam, walked out.

I am so very excited for my Cataract Surgery
My eyes have been so blurry for so many months and I am looking forward, excited, confident in having cataract surgery in almost 2 weeks with this amazing surgeon who is also Director of glaucoma and a professor! She is thorough and explained everything clearly. I look forward to this life-changing cataract surgery with this supreme surgeon. I will add, her entire staff is excellent. Angie and Cassandra give me excellent eye tests today and were very pleasant. Jackie and Victoria are amazing at checkout. How can such a stressful time be so joyful? Well it is, with Dr. Van Tassel and her staffThank you so very much to you all! I don’t put my golden brown eyes in just anybody’s hands!Barbara Todres 1-15-2025 1:30pm appt

Excellent care and clear explanation of choices
Dr. Van Tassel provided excellent care from diagnosis, to surgery, to aftercare. She gave me the time I needed to understand my choices and risks. Besides lens choice , the most important variable for me in my cataract surgery was method. Credible sources say the success rate of the traditional method in which the surgeon makes a small incision is at least equal to the femtosecond laser method. Lasers are not covered by insurance plans and my reading led me to believe that surgeons using the traditional method play a more active role in surgery. Some doctors cite their use of the laser method as a significant advantage, so it was of great value to me that Dr. Van Tassel preempted my questions and endorsed the traditional method. Besides all of the above, the overall Cornell system, from pre-op to post-op medical staff to admin staff to all other support, was characterized by high competence and excellent caregiving. I highly recommend Dr. Van Tassel and the Cornell team.
