Dr. Ghassemi is wonderful!
I was really pleased with Dr. Ghassemi. I moved 2 years ago to NC and an old problem recurred. I was able to get an appointment within a reasonable time. Dr. Ghassemi listened and asked all the right questions to try to figure out the issue. She told me that the GI Scheduling was booked out several months. I was able to get an appointment about 4 months out, but needed to be with a different doctor. But here is the thing--the problem with scheduling and with getting appointments to see Dr. Ghassemi is that there as a high demand for GI doctors and not enough of them, made worse by the new guidelines recommending 1st colonoscopies at age 45. This is NOT Dr. Ghassemi's fault! If you want to wait for Dr. Ghassemi to do your procedure, it WILL be a long wait. It's just how it is. Dr. Ghassemi can't work 24/7. But for routine procedures like colonoscopies and endoscopies, any skilled doctor can perform them, and Dr. Ghassemi coordinates follow up care.

Dissatisfied patient
She would not even take a minute of her time to speak to me after canceling my procedure in the hospital after I was sedated. She has no compassion! I would never recommend her to anyone.

Doesn't Care / Isn't Aware
Doesn't listen. Does not seem to keep patient information straight. Does not return calls when urgently seeking help or advice. Terrible at refilling medications. Overall just an uncaring, unprofessional person who acts like she knows better than every other doctor you've seen before but really she has no clue.

Sahar Ghassemi Duke GI
Procedure/colonoscopy for 6/7/22 on books 5 months. Notified 5/11 that date no longer available and procedure could not be performed by her until 10/25/22. Was told nothing available with her before that. Advised to use "someone else in our group who could get you in June." I explained how I had researched who I wanted to do procedure (history and age/senior advised procedure) and that I did not want to go with someone I did not know. Was offered no other options. Am now starting all over to find someone else. This is a time sensitive procedure. Office employee did not seem to care and it sounded like she had heard it all before. So, I am not the first but hope that I might be the last. Duke, you can do better than this. I am now going to a UNC GI doc despite my primary and all other docs being Duke affiliated. I am a retired hospital administrator (Duke '76) and my husband is a Duke trained surgeon. We KNOW this is not how to handle patients.
