Dr Gunawardane was more than thorough. She displays professionalism and care for her work. She goes the extra mile in patient care.

Dr. Ruani Gunawardane (Dr. G.) saved me from having another stroke! I had a stroke in 2009 while attending flight training in Florida. I was taken to a “regional stroke center” wher they were unable to diagnose my condition! 8 days later I returned home and consulted Dr. G. who had me go for a TEE test (Trans Esophogial Echo Cardiogram). The test confirmed that I had an open hole in my heart called a P.F.O. (Patent Foramen Ovale). Everyone has this opening in there heart before birth. This normally closes after being born. Mine didn’t. Unfortunalely this opening allowed a tiny clot to go to my brain, causing a stroke. I then was sent to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Baltimore, whe a device, called an “Amplatzer' was inserted to close the hole and prevent future strokes. I have had annual follow-up appointments with Dr. G. which have proven to be of my benefit. I owe my regaining a normal life to Dr. G.

For people with chronic headaches and migraines with heightened intensity, I strongly advise you to look for another practice. I first worked with Dr. G probably close to two years ago. For our first appointment, I was quite pleased. Her diagnosis and prescription were just what I needed. Follow-up appointments have since been hellacious. Today, I had an appointment scheduled at 2 p.m. I was not called to be seen by Dr. G until 3:30 p.m., and our time together was over by 3:40 p.m. This is not a one-off situation. I had a telehealth appointment previously with a nurse practitioner. I waited about an hour before I was seen, again for an appointment that lasted less than 10 minutes. I understand that medical facilities all over the country are overbooked and understaffed. This practice has not attempted to remedy this situation, and in my experience, even when they say they are trying, they have not. My time was not respected nor valued. I will not be going here anymore.

Dr. Gunawardane provides excellent patient care. She is knowledgeable, thorough, kind, and patient. Her attention to details, amazing!The patient service staff focused on providing the highest quality service consistent with Dr. G’s care and professionalism. After suffering years with chronic pain, etc., I look forward to improved health and quality of life with Dr. G. on the team.

I found Dr G by looking for a Neurologist near my home. The staff was helpful fitting me in within just a couple of days. I had severe headaches on the left side of my head. I had been to H C Emergency room and waited 9 hours and they totally misdiagnosed my issues. When I met with Dr G -She immediately recognized my problems. Sent me for 2 MRI's on my head, blood tests. The next day she called me on her cell phone and encouraged me to call & text her back as things progressed. Due to stress of my left temporal artery problems I also developed Shingles on the left side of my face, eye and into my scalp. She also knew how to treat that & ultimately sent me to the hospital for a 3-4 day stay of treatments. While I was recovering from home, she was on a trip to Italy to see her daughter and she Actually texted me from Italy and sent in new prescriptions... ABSOLUTLY AMAZING caring for patients. In her office she take ample time to explain everything! Love Dr Gunawardane!!

have been seeing Dr.G for over 5 years and she is one of the best doctors I’ve ever seen. She is so kind and very thorough. She is very friendly and a pleasure to be with. I have referred many people to her.

My husband asked me to write this review. He had symptoms that other doctors could not diagnose and would not take the time to investigate. Other doctors wouldn't even allow him to make an appointment. Then he got an appointment with Dr. Gunawardane and life has greatly improved for him. My husband began waking in the night abruptly with what felt to him like a shot of epinephrine and was accompanied by claustrophobia and dread of returning to sleep. In a short time he was very sleep deprived and miserable. His doctor couldn't make sense of it and others would not even see him because they deemed the claustrophobia psychiatric. Then he say Dr. G and she assured him that she would figure it out. It took persistence but she determined that he was having seizures in his sleep, likely due to a head injury decades ago. He is now on anti-seizure medication. His symptoms are minimal. He is a new man and we are very thankful to have found Dr. G! She is a life saver.

Dr. Ruwani G is one of my all time favorite doctors. She is so knowledgeable, personable, and up to date on what is needed to return one to better health. I am so thankful I found her. By following her medical advice based on her many years of experience, I am feeling and doing so better. I recommend her without reservation. She is also a fashion statement each time I visit her warm welcoming office. Such uplifting energy!!!! Thank you Dr. G

Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane is the most amazing physician I have ever known. She has a wonderful approach to medicine which means she never treats me just as a body part or single ailment, but as a whole person. This allows her to address varied neurological issues all at once, in turn allowing me to stabilize or recover quicker where possible. In my case she continues batting at 100%. She is my doctor, teacher, and advisor whom I trust completely. I thank her every day for the improved quality of daily life she has helped me obtain.

Here’s what I can tell you about this fabulous place. Migraines don’t stand a chance once you start seeing Dr. G and nurse practitioner, Ms. Sametta! They made such an improvement on my quality of life. I am so thankful that someone recommended the Center. I stay up with all of my appointments and look forward to them every 3 months. I don’t know where I would be without the injections. I highly recommend them before you get to the end of your rope.

I cannot say enough about Dr. Gunawardane’s whole person approach to medicine and overall caring and thoughtful treatment. Not only did she effectively treat my elderly Mother’s migraines, but she also was the first physician to investigate the underlying causes of her balance and ambulation problems. Further testing revealed that my Mother acquired Stage 3 kidney cancer, which has now been successfully treated. Again, we are so thankful for Dr. Gunawardane and wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone in this region.

Dr. Gunawardane is the best neurologist I have seen over the last 12 years. She definitely listens to all my concerns and is attentive to medication and insurance complexities. Dr. G is kind, professional, and an expert in managing my clinical needs.

I have been a patient of Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane for over 10 years. My migraines are now under control and not as frequent as they used to be. Furthermore, I don't miss many days of work anymore due to a debilitating migraine. Dr. Gunawardane was very patient with me as we tried every medicine until we found the perfect one to stem my migraines. She collected samples for me from the pharmaceutical representatives when my insurance didn't cover the medication that I needed. Dr. Gunawardane is a caring and knowledgeable neurologist. She always ensures that I am taken care of and can get an appointment when needed. She has given me her cell phone number and I have used it to contact her when I had a really bad migraine and didn't want to sit for hours in the ER. She told me to come to the office and gave me a shot to help mitigate my migraine.

I have seen Doctor Ruwani Gunawardane since she started at University of MD. She was the only one out of 4-5 doctors to not only diagnose my migraines correctly, but to give me the appropriate medicine to handle my headaches (which were 3-5 a week at the time) and enable me to become more productive. Dr Gunawardane has always been accommodating via phone or in person and her staff has always been helpful. If your looking for someone who keeps up on the new treatments and medications, but also has the knowledge then she is your doctor.

Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane is unlike any physician I have ever had. She is attentive to detail, listens to listen rather than to listening to speak, and she shows compassion for each of her patients in/out of the office. Thank you Dr. G for increasing my quality of life thus far so I'm able to achieve my personal and medical goals.

Appointment was on time. Staff were efficient and courteous. Dr. G was friendly and explained the course of action to identify medical problem. She quickly scheduled the appropriate tests. In the follow up appointment, Dr. G spent much time talking about the issue and the various actions we could take to relieve the issue. Dr. G put me at ease during this stressful time. I would recommend Dr. G to family and friends.

I've seen Dr. G many times over the last 11 months after she diagnosed a large brain tumor and sent me to Hopkins for surgery. Recovery has been slow since i needed to relearn how to write, eat with utensils, and walk after the surgery. She always encourages me as well as providing exceptional care. She is outstanding!

I recently switched from my neurologist of 6 years to Dr G. I found her to be very thorough, she explained everything, and she’s very friendly and polite. I’m glad l made the change.

Dr. Gunawardane has been my neurologist since 2011. She is extremely knowledgeable and has a wonderful way with people. Dr. G., as she is known to her patients, is honest and caring...and I would not see any other neurologist.
