Dr. Roland Shepard, MD

I cannot say enough about Dr. Shepard he gave me back my life! The staff are professional and caring but it was Dr. Shepard going above and beyond and showing genuine concern and compassion that changed everything. When I saw Dr. Shepard in April of 2024 I had active C Difficile for over one year. It seems impossible that you can have C diff and not be hospitalized or dead after a year but somehow with three other Gastro's, an infectious disease specialist, two general practicioners, and a neurologist no one knew what to do with me. The best Gastro in St Pete I waited months to see asked my what I would like to do? Three rounds of vancomycin, rounds of steroids never knocked out the C Diff along with Lymphocytic Colitis caused by the C Diff infection. My C difficile was caused by antibiotics prescribed for an infection. over a year later I was giving up then Dr. Shepard did two FMT, it was so bad the first one knocked it down but the 2nd was the fix for the first time I was negative

Dr. Shepard has provided care for both me and my husband for more than 10 years. His ability to connect with each patient is a unique and appreciated gift. When I was afflicted with lymphocytic colitis back in 2018 and had lost hope of finding a solution Dr. Shepard provided me with a correct diagnosis, treated me within 24 hours, and I was healed for life and do not live with colitis (thank God and thank Dr. Shepard). When I walked into his office in the summer of 2020 with horrible abdominal pain he referred me to a specialist within 5 minutes, made certain that office knew I was coming, and I had my appendix removed that afternoon. He truly has helped me live a healthy life TWO TIMES! He cares about his patients, it is obvious. Even with routine colonoscopies he takes time to listen and is an expert at what he does.

Dr Shepard is one of the exceptional doctors who goes above and beyond for his patients. His care plan has made a massive difference in my daughter’s life. Healing her gut has positively impacted her physical and neurological functioning as well as improved her overall well-being. This has been a game-changer after a lifetime of visiting specialists. Thank you Dr Shepard!

I have been going to see Dr. Shepard for quite a few years. He has always been amazing, upfront and has a gentle demeanor. Dr. Shepard is very knowledgeable in his field and always listens to my concerns. He is quite thorough in his medical explanations and in giving me treatment options. Also, the front desk staff and nurse, Gabi, are excellent and very sweet. Recently I had to go to the Florida medical Clinic for a procedure and I was blown away. The staff is truly amazing. The nurses were so kind and helpful. The whole experience was first class. They made me feel cared for from the moment they called me in until I left. I highly recommend Dr. Shepard and the nurses at the Florida Medical Clinic. I would not go to anyone else!

In 2019 I was in and out of the ER, dangerously ill, with a gastrointestinal autoimmune disease that devastated my quality of life. Today I am thriving. Dr. Shepard gave me my life back. He also went above and beyond to make sure I had access to my medication when my insurance company let me down. Dr. Shepard has made an immeasurable positive impact on my life, and I cannot recommend him enough.

Everyone at the office and the clinic were very friendly, professional and very helpful. All questions were answered. I was nervous at the clinic but they helped me through the process. The entire teams was fantastic.

Dr. S truly cares for patients; on 1st visit found him patient and inquisitive. 2 weeks later went to ER for ab pain & called office to let them know. ER doc said gallbladder (GB) needed to go, but not urgent so ER rec. a surgeon. On driving home got a call from office. They rec. a Dr. whose office initially said he could not see my wife for weeks. I then said I'd been referred by Dr. S’ office & they sch. the appt. Next day got a call from Dr. S. and explained what ER did. He rec. and ordered a more thorough GB scan, providing invaluable info to the surgeon. We met with the surgeon Wed. and he removed her GB Fri in a 3 hour oper. (typ. takes an hour), and he only knew he was going to have a complicated op because of the insight of Dr. S to order the additional scan! Additionally, Dr. S called Sat to check in...to me, it speaks volumes to how he approaches medicine. IMO, Dr. S exemplifies the type of person and professional every Dr. should aspire to being. HE CARES!

I never write reviews but Dr Shepard is a special human being. I had Cdiff and Dr Shepard performed a fecal transplant. The worst Cdiff symptoms went away within a day. Since then, its been a VERY gradual improvememt over the last 5 months. From the first visit he stated “I am in this with you for the long haul.” He has been including getting me next morning office visits when needed during my recovery. Great human being!!

I'm a relatively new patient of Dr. Shepard. After just a couple of meetings, he was able to prescribe medication that has gone 90% of the way toward resolving a gastroenterological syndrome I have had almost all of my adult life. I had been to a number of gastroenterologists previously, but none of them came up with the solution he found. Dr. Shepard listens carefully and explains things clearly and thoroughly. I have never had to wait for more than a few minutes in his office before he is available. I highly recommend him as a great doctor in his area of specialty.

Dr. Shepard is most definitely a cut above most doctors. I did not think this level of care was still available. I had a difficult health issue that I could not get any relief from over a period of at over seven months when he took me on as a patient. He provided extraordinary and expert care, explained everything in detail and did it with compassion. He continued to follow up with me to make sure all was well; I was overwhelmed with his sincere concern for my well-being. His medical and office staff shows the same kindness and respect as he does. I am so grateful to Dr. Shepard and his group.

Been seeing Dr. Shepard for a number of years. He's always caring and always answers any questions I have. His procedures are at the clinic on Bruce B. Downs Blvd. and the staff there is also terrific!!

I recently had my first visit with Dr. Shepard. His office staff was welcoming and very kind. Dr. Shepard made me feel comfortable and took time going over my health history. I had arrived a few minutes early and they were able to take me on time (Dr. Shepard even thanked me for arriving on time!). I was able to schedule the procedure I need and I am certain I just found a very good Doctor who I will recommend to others.

I began seeing Dr. Shepard after a negative experience with another practice. From walking through the door, the level of personal patient care is remarkable and reassuring. After months battling with constant vomiting and unhealthy weight loss, he was able to diagnose and treat the problem quickly, just from reviewing my symptoms and my already existing test results. Not only that, but Dr. Shepard is a rare breed of doctor who actually listens to his patients. His MA is personable and his office never seems to feel "rushed" like many other practices. I'd highly recommend Dr. Shepard to anyone in need of his services.

I’ve been seeing dr Shepard for almost 20 years and always happy with him but my last few visit I didn’t get out of his office happy or satisfied because he didn’t spend enough time with me and he didn’t even examine me for my problems and I felt that he was not in the room with me ! I still like him and don’t want to go to any other office but I wish he could have spend little more time and pay more attention to me as a patient !

TL;DR - I do not recommend. He had quick availability but there may be reasons for that... First off, for anyone like me who uses these reviews to find doctors who may be more detail-oriented, may practice HAES, or who will treat you you kindness & as a whole person, this if for you. Dr. Shepard does not use anything remotely close to HAES (Healthy at Every Size) approach to Healthcare. If you are a fat person looking for a GI doctor to listen to you & treat you as a whole person, not just a number on the scale, then avoid this doctor. I went to Dr. Shepard with long-term dysphagia, struggles getting food down that would lead to me having to throw up to clear blockages. I'd been struggling struggling GERD as well and near daily symptoms. This doctor scheduled me for an x-ray which is what I had expected, but then he recommend I do Keto or Gastric Bypass surgery to lose weight "before I lose control over it" as I get older, which I did not expect. Patient of Dr. Shepard for 3 years. He is a rear combination of being genuinely caring, intellectually strong (and thinks outside the box), excellent listener, friendly and converses and an “adult to adult basis” (not at all condescending) / ego). Procedurally, he is a superior practitioner and uses only the finest facility in Tampa. No rushing or over booking. I take a longer trek over to see Dr. Shepard in Tampa from St. Pete Beach area. I probably pass 7 fine hospitals along the way, and about 100 gastroenterologists. Dr. Shepard is quality and cares. He epitomizes the gold standard of why some ethical and intelligent people of high morals standards dedicate their lives to being a doctor: to do the best in their power to help people. He is a blessed man, so please keep Dr. Shepard in your prayers as he takes care of people. I was referred to Dr. Shepard by Dr. Vincent, ENT Clearwater who also operates on Shepard’s level.

Caring and professional; highly recommended

Dr. Shepard has been my doctor over 10 years now. My husband is also his patient. Several years ago I had a very serious illness that I have now been in remission from for more that 5 years, thanks to him. Dr. Shepard and his staff are A+. We continue to see him for routine procedures and wellness checks. I highly recommend him for he is simply the best. I would give him 10 stars if I could.

I spent YEARS and 10's of thousands of dollars in doctors, testing, supplements, diet, books, etc...trying to fix my health issues. Major bloating and constipation were my main GI symptoms, but autoimmunity, weight loss, hair loss, dry skin, exhaustion, depression, anxiety were some of the others and the list goes on.
