very good communication, great patient relationship. had no problems with surgery or follow up care. I found Chris his scheduler to be easy to work with and Tammi was always a pleasure to see and work with.

I asked why he wasn’t using the new knee implants he said they were gimmicks. They are state of the art I got the ancient stuff. He lied to me

Fabulous Orthopedic Surgeon
Dr. Askins has replaced both my hips and both my knees. This was done in 2003, 2008 and 2012 (both knees at once in 2012). I have had zero problems with any of these replacements, and my first, the left hip in 2003 is now 20 years old. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Askins for his outstanding ability to insert the correct size replacement and do it expertly so it functions perfectly for many years. Since so many years have passed without ANY problems, I wanted to document that and thank Dr. Askins for allowing me to walk comfortably and efficiently for all these years.

He diagnosed and treated an old college knee injury with efficient and very helpful care, which, so far, has given me 7 more years of use as a 4 mile-per-day walker and a back packer. And it is clear I have a few years left before knee replacement might be necessary.

Don’t see Dr. Askins
If anybody is looking for a knee doctor I highly do not recommend Dr. Ronald Vance Askins. This doctor did not even look at my leg or take x-rays. He did not even give me a diagnosis. When walking toward him going to the office, he said, “I can see that you need surgery just because of the way you walk.” Then he asked me, “How long has it been hurting? Which knee is hurting you? I asked him how do you know I need surgery if you haven’t done any x-rays? He said he knew that I needed surgery by the way I walk. Then he went to get a knee replacement to show me what he was going to do in surgery. This got me nervous. I said I don’t know what you’re doing. He said, “you do think you need surgery?” I said, “I don’t know, but I does hurt.” He walked out and said we will give you a call tomorrow to make the date for this surgery. That was the last I saw him. I highly recommend not to use this doctor.

Dr. Askins replaced both my 77 year old knees February 18, 2020. Recovery went well. I was able to return to my favorite racquet sport in October. I have no pain, only occasional stiffness. He was recommended by other patients and nurses that work with him. “He’s the best.” Bill. April 23, 2021

I have waited over a year to write this review because I can not believe I can walk pain free again. I had a total knee replacement by Dr. Askins. He was very forthright to me, saying I have to do my part with due diligence in physical therapy and exercises post surgery. He woke me up, reminding me that surgery is important, but followup inessential to recovery. I am 100% satisfied with Dr. Askins and Lakewood Ranch Hospital.
