dismissive, missed a serious progressive disease
I told Dr. Frankel that I could not read out of one of my eyes for over a year and a half and that I was having migraines because of it. I was dismissed, told that I just had dry eyes. At my last visit, he told me that my vision was blurry all the time in one eye because maybe my blood sugar spiked, although my normal A1C was in my chart right in front of him. He did not offer any other explanation as to why I could not see.I went to a new ophthalmologist, who diagnosed me with keratoconus within 5 minutes of her own exam. I have a comorbid condition that is highly correlated with keratoconus. With multiple residents and an attending physician looking at me eyes, the connective tissue disorder affecting collagen listed in my chart, and my insistence that I cannot see out of one eye, I find it highly concerning not one ophthalmologist who saw me diagnosed it.I will never get that year and a half back, where I could have been getting treatment to slow progression.

Had an eye emergency on a business trip and was referred by the local ER. Dr. Frankel saw me immediately, handled my potentially serious eye injury professionally with no hesitation, and it worked out perfectly. When my trusted personal eye surgeon reviewed my case, he said it was handled exactly right.
