For kindness, gentleness and one-on-one attention in time of grief, I give Dr. Slattery five stars and recommend without qualification. Once you get stronger, his “wise old uncle” demeanor will either comfort and support you (can feel like taking the path of least resistance) or lead you to find someone more willing to ask hard questions in the service of growth. Only once did I go to him for couples’ counseling (one star). His easygoing style does not lend itself to challenging distortions or boundary violations in his therapy room. All in all, he is a very lovely and thoughtful man: a good listener who will repeatedly encourage you to “do whatever you need to do to be kind to yourself.”
