Very Happy with our visit
Dr, Savala was able to listen to my description of my condition and made sure he understood my description. He was kind and attentive and focused on my issues. He was very clear in explaining my treatment options and the origin of my pain. I could not have expected more from a physician.

Best doctor ever
Dr. Savala is the best doctor I have ever seen in almost 80 years. Before my initial visit, before he came into the exam room he actually READ my medical history and the questionnaire I had just completed AND he read the notes from my recent visit to a doctor in a different specialty, so he already knew the background of my problem. Because of this, he didn't waste our time re-asking all of the questions on the questionnaire. He LISTENED to me, didn't rush me at all, didn't interrupt, and honed in on the problem (and what I had just said) when he did ask questions. He cared about my opinion about my problem and didn't just substitute his own stock rehearsed answer. He explained what he thought was wrong and what might help, and asked if I thought that made sense (instead of just assuming I had to take his advice as gospel). He was respectful and never patronizing, both smart and compassionate. No massive doctor ego. This is the one you want.

What happened on my in person visit
Dr. Salva seems very experienced as he keeps making a point of telling you how experienced he is. That said, maybe his patient experience is with men. As a women he is very rough in hisphysical exam even when you say ouch that hurts, he continues further rather than acknowledge and adjust his man handeling. I was laid up for a week after he upset my sciatica .

Best shots ever!
I have been to many pain specialists and Doctor Savala gives the most effective, long lasting spinal injections of any doctor in the Bay Area! He is in a class of his own.

Impressed with Dr. Savala
I recently saw Dr. Savala for an orthopedic issue. He was very personable, took his time in doing a thorough evaluation, and answered questions in an understandable way. He recommended a conservative treatment approach involving physical therapy, which was exactly what I was hoping for. I loved my old orthopedist, who just retired, so I am very relieved to find Dr. Savala as a worthy replacement.

I wasn't able to see the dentist.
I was told that I couldn't see the dentist because I didn't have my CA benefits card. I don't know why that was necessary because I intended to pay with cash, out of pocket. Maybe you can't pay out of pocket here? I actually had my benefits card in my wallet but didn't realize it. I had my home burglarized and later burned to the ground by racists in Siskiyou County. I assumed I had lost the card after the ordeal I've been through. Nobody was there to check me in. I tried to use the sef-serve kiosk but it didn't have my appointment in the system. When the receptionist showed up and told me that I couldn't keep my appointment w/o my benefits card, I just left in frustration. There's no parking, so I had to pay $13 to park on the street, a few blocks away. I hope I can get affordable dental care somewhere. But I live in the United States of Oligarchs so, not likey!

I am 81 and have lived with moderate to severe lumbar and cervical spine pain for 30 years. For eight years I have been under Dr. Savala’s medical care for pain management. The doctor’s extensive experience with pain control and the range of interventions on which he can draw have given me a new life with much less pain. MRI’s of my lower back confirmed excessive degeneration of the disc spaces from vertebrae L3 to S1. Several appointments and lengthy consultations with neuro surgeons over 10 years resulted in recommendations of spinal fusion surgery with what I have come to understand were unrealistically optimistic forecasts of success. Spinal fusion surgery will be my absolute last resort if all other interventions fall short on pain relief. We experimented with spinal injections which were marginally effective for pain relief from one to three months. Dr. Savala also prescribed low doses of Hydrocodone which is now one of the four cornerstones in my pain control regimen

Dr. Savala saved my life. My former neurosurgeon left several pieces of bone in my spinal cord for several months, thus ending my career as a board certified prosthodontist, in San Francisco. Dr. Savala is absolutely on the “cutting edge” of his field. It took a few years, however Dr. Savala was able to recommend medical protocols that allowed me to work part-time in a local San Francisco hospital for eight years. He is an excellent listener, diagnostician with cutting edge recommendations.
