A business like eye exam with NO personal touch.
I had a new patient appointment. All the eye exam was done by a trainee who seemed to know what she is doing. Dr. Johnson did not say anything about his findings after a 5 minutes eye exam. He did not ask if I have any concerns about the progress or deterioration of my glaucoma. Which was supposed to be monitored thoroughly by Dr. Gordon who relocated to Coupeville. When I was about to ask a question, he hurriedly directed me to go to another room for a photo which was not explained to me what it was for. It was an open-ended eye exam!

I just sought a basic eye exam. The tech at the office was great and ran the eye chart stuff and did the eye dialation. Then spent about five minutes with the doctor who look around into my eyes with an instrument and found no real problems. I had two questions and the doctor answered the first right there and walked out the door during the second question. Patient disrespect. I had told the doctor that this was my first real eye exam in almost 50 years and I was expecting a little voluntary feedback on what to watch for and what to expect. I had previously sought the advice of the doctor during a shingles event near my left eye and he was concerned, polite, compassionate, and fit me in as an emergency matter. So I give him 5 stars out of courtesy, but ask him to abandon the health cartel notion of just walking out on a patient as if they had disappeared or the clock ran out. We are here and we pay the bills.

Dr. Johnson was friendly and attentive. He told me that I have cataracts and did not pressure me into surgery. I like that he does surgery on Whidbey Island and that I do not have to leave the island for surgery. Staff were friendly and very helpful

Did not feel that my needs were met especially since my primary care provider called and spoke with Dr. Johnson to let him know what was going on when she made the appointment for me. It seems like he should have known when he talked with my PCP that he couldn't do anything for me. It seemed like a waste of my time and money. He is the only ophthalmologist I've heard say it was risky to do a tear duct probe.
