The Best
Dr. Robert Hoffman is beyond five stars. He is brilliant, caring, and insightful and even finds the best medication prices. I have seen him for many years. I had my "biologic tests" done at his office, which turned my health around 100%. Dr. Hoffman is always reading and learning what is up to date on so many medical issues. Karen, in his office is fantastic as well.

Dr Hoffman treated a dear friend of mine, at a time when she was very ill and I was one of the people taking care of her. So I was present at many of her meetings with him. When I heard the tone of voice he used to talk to her, like she was a child or somehow simple? I couldn't believe it. He managed to convey very often that he was a terribly important and busy doctor, was constantly telling her she was communicating with her in the wrong way and he didn't have time for things she needed. He was asked, for instance to sign a form that would have helped her gain entrance to a day program I knew was very good. He had his secretary call her and ask her if she was "really," going to go there, because he didn't have time to sign this paper otherwise. When I discovered more than a week later that he had never submitted the form, and wrote to him about it, he turned his patronizing belittling treatment on me. He was always respectful to my husband and her son, so maybe it's just women...

My son who is 19 saw Dr. Hoffman as a second opinion about his depression and suicidal ideation. Dr. Hoffman was thorough in asking me questions and having my son complete a 50 page questionnaire. However, once on the phone with my son, Dr. Hoffman got frustrated when Liam would not see the light and did not agree with Dr. Hoffman's immediate diagnosis. Dr. Hoffman then became belligerent and started to curse, saying my son was "f***ed up." Dr. Hoffman said he was in fact "too f***ed up to talk to." $600 for the first and only session and Dr. Hoffman was incredibly unprofessional. I do not care if this man is God's gift to psychiatry like he thinks he is. There is no rationale to support unprofessionalism when speaking to a highly suicidal patient.

Before I started seeing him, I was manic, depressed, had frequent panic attacks and was even suicidal at times. I was on several meds, which obviously weren't working. He immediately started weaning me off them & put me on the correct ones. The difference was substantial. He has had such a positive impact on my life, I don't know where I would be if I hadn't started seeing him. That was over 5 years ago, and I feel like a different person. I still have the occasional panic attack, but I don't even remember what manic felt like. Dr Hoffman is always kind, understanding, and there when I need him. On the other hand, when you call in, Karen can be quite curt. I'm sure she just gets busy but it often comes off as rude & even just mean. She could use some patience, and think about who she's dealing with. Some of us are more fragile than others, and can't always handle her condescending attitude. Slow your roll Karen, we can't all be as perfect as you. But back to Dr H, A+ & Thank you!

I had been clinically depressed for over 20 years despite having seen multiple specialists. I was referred by my therapist because of Dr. Hoffman’s excellent results with complex cases. Over a 6 month period Dr. Hoffman was able to figure out a “cocktail” that worked. I continue to see him for med checks andI have been fine for the last 5 years. I am forever grateful.

Unethical, egotistical, greedy, manipulative, destructive, and preys upon the vulnerable. Dr. Hoffman told me he is the only one who can help me. He pressured me to leave young children home alone at night to go to his weekly group. At a family session he told my 12 year old that everyone knew she was the big problem. Office policy requires 7 day cancellation and full fee even if his staff fills that time. Patients who tell him they are switching doctors are told it’s in their best interest to stay for double the time they saw him so they can possibly have a healthy transition. I’ve never written a bad review of a doctor but had to speak out here. Mental health is too important to put in the wrong hands.

18 months never got better...always tweaking meds and still never got it right. Lost a marriage because he failed as a Doctor......hes all about the money.....worst doctor I ever got referred to and at the end of the day my wife an RN said my hypomania was never under control and this 28 months. I followed everything he prescribed. He would call 10 mins late but if you were one time when I had a med breakdown instaead of saying are you ok this isn't like you he left a voice mail that said hey it's 3 mins past our schedule I have every minute scheduled until 6 so if you don't call you LL have to reschedule for......I knew then why after 18 months I had never gotten better hypomania wise with Mr Atm/ /UCLA/ and why my wife of 5 yrs couldn't take it any more / she had waited 18 months and this 2nd rate only got wealthier.

If I could give negative stars, I would. This completely unprofessional and uncaring “Doctor” had been seeing my sister but refused to appropriately treat and help her when she became severely clinically depressed. He was more concerned about patients calling his cell phone than assisting my sister when she was in crisis. Thank God we found a caring and effective psychiatrist to help my sister. Please do not use this man - there is not a compassionate bone in his body.

Dr. Hoffman is kind but not the right psychiatrist for me. His initial evaluation was a 50 page intake form w/hundreds of questions he uses to diagnose based on points per category. Another psychiatrist I saw asked many questions about myself, history, etc. and she listened and asked follow up questions to determine my diagnosis. I didn't like the meds I was on w/Dr. Hoffman and when I pushed to change them he pushed back. It took me SIX MONTHS w/horrible withdrawl to ween off them. No thanks.
