getting second opinion.
without even knowing my back history from just reading MRI went right in to my only option is surgery with rods, screws etc. I am not an invalid by any means - sciatica pain. Very gruff and didnt look me in the eye and seemed in a hurry to be done with me.

Not likely, bad experience
Jumped through every hoop known to man and finally got a surgery date. Three weeks before surgery I called to see if there was anything else I need to do like pre op testing. Reese, forget giving me a surgery date and apparently didn’t schedule anything. Already filled fmla and short term disability with family taking work off as well. Starting all over. Doctor himself was only seen for approximately 2-4 minutes. Felt like a number that didn’t matter one way or another every time I dealt with someone there. Reese made lots of promises on doctors behalf that never came to fruition, she was the only one that was overly polite and did the least for me, while being the only person I could contact in the office

Couldn't have been treated nicer by his staff. He came in after reviewing my MRI told me I definitely needed more fusion, but he wanted a mylagram to look also at higher up.in spine. 2 weeks later I go for appt he then tell me he doesn't want to do anything. I ask about arms going numb..he says sounds like your neck. Doesn't say let's check it or anything. I get the impression he just didn't want to touch my problems..I'm now left with severe pain and looking to start over

Make an informed decision after reading. The waiting area had one hand sanitizer on the wall it was Out Of Order and there was Not a lot of social distancing. I waited 2 hours to see Dr. Gewirtz and alas I only saw a med assistant. She was passively rude when I asked why I was not seeing a doctor then it became about her delicate ego she was upset. Very unprofessional The med assistant gave me an "exam" it was not complete I have had two surgeries in the past 15 years I know how these exams are conducted this was not done well at all. Dr. G was there in a small office when I was walking back to the exam room then I saw him in the hallway as I was leaving. I filled out the paperwork at home what a joke since I had 2 hours to fill it out in their unclean lobby. It appears that Dr. Gewirtz lets his staff go out in tiny exam rooms during a deadly pandemic to play doctor and he is safe in a small room away from deadly viral germs hiding like a lazy coward. Do your job at least.

In July of 2011, Dr. Gewirtz repaired my Brain Aneurysm. When he first saw me he gave me 2 choices and was straight and to the point about the "coiling" telling me it would only prolong the craniotomy and coiling would not fix the issue. I only recommend him and him only. If you are looking for someone who sugarcoats things, he is not your man, bedside manner's could be better but he fixed my issue and I promise you God forbid I ever have another one he is the one and only one I will go to.

Dr Gewirtz handled my craniotomy for a complicated aneurysm with great confidence. His bed-side care is not great, but that's not what I needed; I needed someone who could fix my brain, not hold my hand.

Glad I got a second opinion after seeing Gerwitz. He disregarded my condition as if it were nothing. He sends in a PA before seeing you who rapid fires questions at you. He’s already made up his mind on your case before he comes into the room. If you see him, get a second opinion.

Not pleasant, my husband came to Mt Carmel East hospital with terrible back pain. Dr Gerwitz was part of a group of Drs that saw him to diagnose his issue. After tests and a brief stay. This Doctor came to the room and was rude and abrupt and told my husband he would have to wear a back brace the rest of his life and be on pain pills and there was nothing he could do to help him. When we returned home my husband was told he has Multiple Myeloma. Which is not a disease that can be treated with a back brace.

In February of 2014 I was taken to Riverside Hospital with a brain aneurysm and thanks to Dr. Gewirtz I am still here today. He doesn't sugarcoat anything. He tells you what is wrong and explains how he is going to fix the issue. I was offered 2 different surgeries and after talking to both surgeons my husband chose Dr. Gewirtz, and I would choose him everytime. I have nothing but great things to say about him. He is no nonsense kind of person. Very professional.

This doctor is an excellent surgeon in my experience. I suffered with trigeminal neuralgia for three years. I sought out surgical option as meds became less and less effective in controlling the debilitating pain. In July, 2014 Dr. Gewirtz performed microvascular decompression (MVD) surgery and I have been pain free since. Truly a miracle for me. Looking at other reviews on this site, I would agree that interpersonal skills are not his strong suit; brain surgery is.

Didnt have any interest in listening to me. PA was even worse. I felt like it was a bother for me to be there. Spent a whopping 5-10 minutes talking to me. Acted as if it was stupid for me to be there. Very disappointing visit.

Dr Gewirtz was second opinion. So thankful he was referred. Instead of spinal fushion was able to get successful disk replacement. Went so well no physical therapy needed. After 2.5 years still doing great!!!

Dr. Gewirtz performed a PLIF and cyst removal at L4/L5. My PCP had him #1 on his recommendation list. The results speak volumes; very little time lost from work, incision healed perfectly, zero residual pain, driving by day 14, walking every day from day 14-today(day 55) for 2+mi. Huge and pleasant change. 2-day hospital stay was fine.
