I'm a new person after 2
Dr. Balkissoon performed knee replacements on both of my knees last year. 1st was in July, and the 2nd was in November. Dr. Balkissoon spent many appointments prior to surgery answering questions and preparing me for a full successful recovery. He explained the possible risks involved withe the procedure and all the stages i would encounter during recovery. Since surgery I have a new life. I was able to hike at Letchworth in September during a camping trip after the July surgery and now preparing more trips in 2025. Dr. Balkissoon cares about his patients and makes sure you have all the knowledge for a successful recovery.

Great jobs on 3 replacements so far.
This is my third review of Dr. Balkissoon. From 12/2019 - 8/2022 he has performed one TKA (knee) and just did both THA (hips) this year. I agree with every good thing that people have posted about him and his practice. I had been living with pain for the last 20 years. I was sure I was going to be in a wheelchair by the time I turned 65. Dr Balkissoon started joint replacements on my chronic osteoarthritis when I was 58. I feel 25 years younger without pain now. He just did my right hip last week and it feels so good already. I didn’t really want posterior hip replacement but after he replaced my knee, I knew I could trust him with my hips. One more knee replacement in 2023 and I will be great shape to move around more. He has given me my quality of life back. The people at Highland hospital and his offices really like him. I think this says it all. If you’re looking for a surgeon to take care of your needs, he is the guy. Thank you Dr Balkissoon.

Excellent orthopedic surgeon
As a RN I really did my research and was fortunate to find Dr Balkissoon. I had my right knee replacement this past January after trying PT, gel injections and standard anti inflammatory drugs. I was no longer able to even walk around the block and decided it was time. Dr Balkissoon came highly recommended. He is very attentive, answered all questions without rushing the visit, explained all options clearly and did not push for surgery to be done until I was ready. The surgery went very well and I’m back to riding my bike, playing some golf and tennis. My care at Highland Hospital was perfect. Nurses, PT all excellent. He has an excellent PA Jayne Cooper that is outstanding as well. I would highly recommend Dr. Balkissoon. I can not think of anything that could have been improved upon. Highland Hospital has the lowest infection rate in New York State which is incredibly important.

Dr. Balkissoon and the staff, including NPJayne Cooper undertook a complicated total knee implant revision when my first implant (performed by a different surgeon) failed. It is now 3 months after my surgery and I am ecstatic with the results (and working hard in PT). From pre-op to surgery in the middle of the covid pandemic, to post op follow up, Dr. Balkissoon and the team were patient, careful, and skilled. They were also great communicators and made extra time for me whenever anything popped up. They shared extensive notes with me on mychart and had a great protocol for pain control. I was in great hands, and recommend Dr. Balkissoon and the team highly!

I can't say enough about Dr Balkissoon and his excellent care, compassion, and expertise. Had my knee done on 8/9/21 he and his team did a great job. I literally had no pain from the day of surgery to present. Of course there is nerve tingling and some discomfort but with what I had it has been so much better. He takes the time to listen and goes over everything with you. Thank you again Dr. Balkissoon for your excellent care and job you did on my left knee. Now we need to get the right one done.

I was referred to Dr. Balkisoon by my Primary Care physician. I had been experiencing left hip and lower back pain for over a year. My doctor originally thought it was more back related. I spent over 9 months taking back injections etc. Finally my doctor recommended Dr. Balkisoon. She said he was one of the best. On my initial visit, the staff took X-rays. It clearly showed I had sever degeneration of my left hip ball and socket. Dr. Balkisoon spent over 25 minutes with me, showing me the X-rays and describing various methods to get me better. I can’t remember the last time a doctor spent that long talking and explaining my problem and various treatments. Frankly, even I knew hip replacement was the correct choice. After we discussed things, we decided that hip surgery was the best choice. There was no pressure. Dr. Balkissoon wanted to make sure I made the decision. He was great - listened and was thoughtful. Its been over 6 months since my surgery! My new hip feels great. Thanks!

September 2, 2020 I had total hip replacement for my right hip by Dr. Balkissoon. September 1, 2021 Dr. Balkissoon performed total hip replacement for my left hip. Both experiences were so positive due in large part to the confidence I have in Dr. Balkissoon, and his staff. He was very thorough in his explanation of the arthritic condition of my hips, and benefits of surgery that would provide the relief of the discomfort I was experiencing. He was also very methodical as he explained the non-invasive approach that we could try prior to jumping into surgery. He left no stone unturned in describing the surgery, and took the time to learn about my lifestyle to ensure the appropriate prosthesis was used. He answered all my questions satisfactorily.

I had a total knee replacement with phenomenal results. I was educated, counseled, and was confident going into and after surgery. Dr Balkasoon is highly skilled and professional throughout the process. I have pain free mobility for the first time in 32 years after 14 weeks of recovery. My scarring is minimal. Best decision -as I have many years ahead to be active and healthy!

I’ve been seeing Dr Balkissoon for over a year and a half, he helped me with cortisone injections in my knees. He never pushed me to have knee replacement surgery, instead told me let’s do what we can to keep you comfortable, until you feel you’ve reached the end where you feel you need total knee replacement! We worked together, as a team, to do what we could to keep me active. It came to a point where I said to him, I’m ready, I want my life back so when can you do the surgery? I had my left knee replacement done, and I was doing so great he agreed to do my right 5 weeks later. It’s been 3 months since my second total knee replacement, I’m back to hiking, I’ve lost 35 pounds and am So Grateful to him for giving me my life back!! He was the biggest blessing in letting me make the final decision, and supporting me and helping me through both total knee replacements, and having me hiking small hills within 3 months of my second knee! He is my hero, I’m so grateful to him! He’s the Best.

My painful hip joint was destroyed by arthritis, and I was grimly headed for life in a wheelchair when Dr. Rishi Balkissoon and his cadre of talented professionals operated on me and restored my mobility. I had resisted surgery because of my age and other health problems. After a relatively painless procedure, and in a shorter time than I would have believed possible, I CAN NOW WALK AGAIN!

It's rare to find a talented surgeon who is also personable. Dr Balkissoon did a fabulous job on my 75 year old knee replacement. His nurse, Jayne Cooper, and support team were supportive and helpful. I’d recommend him highly and will be seeing him again for next knee. I'm happy to answer any questions from potential patients. I give him a 10+ with gratitude and respect. Kay

Dr. Balkisson was recommended to me by a previous patient of his. I found Dr. Balkissoon to be a excellent Physician and Surgeon. I had been to a number of other doctors about my right hip over a number of years and all they wanted to do was immediately operate. Dr. Balkissoon took the time to explain various options and how they would impact my treatment. I eventually had a total right hip replacement, but he was never in a rush and always did things at my pace. Took the time to explain everything and what to expect. Obviously a very skilled surgeon as results were excellent and x-rays showed perfect post-surgery results. Even as I was preparing for the surgery, whenever I was asked who my surgeon was, the hospital staff always commented that he was the best. The surgery went smoothly with minimal pain. Recovery was faster than expected and resolved all of my issues just as he had previously explained. Highly recommended.

I had a right hip replacement performed by Dr. Balkissoon five years after my left hip was replaced by another surgeon. Based on my earlier experience, I was expecting an arduous recovery and rehab. I couldn't have been more wrong. Dr. Balkissoon did a fabulous job and my recovery was smooth and rapid. Not only that, but he is a very caring practitioner who takes as much time to explain and discuss your questions as you need. I would recommend him without reservation.

Dr. Balkissoon replaced my left hip three months ago. I quickly was able to walk, and by four weeks was slowly building distance. I already can ramble four to seven miles at a time. All I can say is “What he did really worked”.

I originally saw Dr. Balkissoon when getting a second opinion and I am so glad that I did! At the other othro practice, I felt like the only thing the Dr wanted to do was operate. When I started seeing Dr. Balkissoon that all changed. Dr Balkissoon spent a lot of time with me educating me regarding why I was having pain and reviewing my options. Dr. Balkissoon always treated me like an individual and not just another patient that needed surgery. I am now pain free after a total hip replacement.

His bedside manner is A+ By following his recommendations, I now have NO PAIN and full freedom of movement, with very few limitations. My husband and I are very happy, no, WE ARE DELIGHTED!! to have found such a competent a surgeon. Highly recommended: 5 stars.
