Not a good choice
Not a good choice. First, this doctor couldn't get my medicine history straight. He kept trying to put my current meds as my initial meds, no matter how many times I told him. I brought a write-up of what happened with the injury, and I wrote it up on their form, and he asked me what happened and started writing it down. Why did I have to write it if he needed to? Second, he told me if the physical therapy didn't work, he'd offer an epidural shot in my spine and that that would "cure" the problem. It clearly does not. Third, He seriously downplayed my injury, claiming it was pre-existing. While, and not knowing until this point, some may have been pre-existing, I did not have any issue with my back until I was injured at work. Religion and professional care don't mix.

Dismissive and rude
Visited in spring of this year. I had previously been diagnosed with FAI and later borderline hip dysplasia from a previous orthopedic surgeon in Colorado and I just wanted to see if I could get a cortisone shot from McCain. When I got there, I had xrays taken and I described all of my symptoms and everything I had gone through with my surgeon back home. McCain then told me that I did not have FAI but did not give me any reason for my pain (and at that point it was a 6/7 daily pain level). He completely disregarded my experience and pain. I ended up having hip surgery in July for my FAI and what turned out to be a completely non-functioning labrum. He also badmouthed my surgeon and the people who diagnosed me, saying that they clearly didn’t know what they were doing. My surgeon works with UC health, a statewide healthcare group. Do not go here. He was rude and belittled me.

Dr. McCain has taken care of me for many years and I like him very much. He is conservative in his approach, which also I like very much. He is usually able to see me quickly if something comes up suddenly and his office staff is very nice and efficient. I recently had a total knee replacement, which he does not do, but his staff was very timely in getting my records transfered to the surgeon who did the work.

Would not go to him again, even though the surgeries went well. He discounts what his patient has to say, which caused me several additional weeks of unnecessary pain before a 2nd surgery. And, apparently, I'm not the only patient whom he has chronically undermedicated for pain. Good surgeon but mediocre doctor. Much too fond of his own opinion.

I have used Dr. McCain for 20+ years and found him excellent. However, I've had a terrible time with a hip fracture, he placed screws in my hip in lieu of a total hip replacement. To make matters worse, I had no insurance in January of this year, he was aware of this, but he directly admitted me to Baptist medical. Dr, McCain kept me on pain meds that didn't even touch my level of pain while in the hospital and for two weeks upon discharge. He refuses to transfer records or x-rays.
