Highly recommend - absolute gem!
Dr. Giannandrea is an excellent dentist. As a patient of his for over 20 years, I can attest to his perfectionism and tip top care. What I like most (and it is extremely hard to find), is that Dr. G is hands on, thorough and performs all services himself. When I first came to him, I was a borderline periodontal candidate. Dr. G came up with a plan of care which required my commitment to coming multiple times a year. This plan changed the health of my gums and it certainly paid off. In addition, I have recommended the practice to several friends and family all of whom agree that his care is thorough and superb! The office is extremely clean, runs very efficiently (always on time) and regardless of emergency or routine questions, Dr. G or his friendly staff respond promptly. It gives me great pleasure to write this review – Mr. G is a great dentist and I give him an A++ rating!

A real dentist with a old fashioned practice
Dr. Richard Giannandrea practices dentistry in the same traditional manner as my father did. He doesn’t advertise in glossy magazines dressed in $3,000 suits or athletic wear like a trainer in an upscale gym, he isn’t surrounded by assistants to do the hard work like cleaning teeth that is scorned by his competitors, and his office isn’t decorated with furniture that resembles teeth or the golf trophies he claims to have won. His competitors work in multi-office practices, which are run by young MBA’s (who aren’t dentists) making sure that each procedure is completed within prescribed time limits and in a manner to maximize revenue. For those of you who haven’t experienced being treated by a real dentist like Dr. Giannandrea, you have no idea what you are missing. You are losing the opportunity to develop a long term relationship with a caring health care professional, not a salaried employee of a large practice, who is sure to move on for a better opportunity if it happens.

When I first went to Dr. Giannandrea in the early 1990s, I told him that a dentist in my old neighborhood said I needed $2,000 worth of gum work. Dr. G. said to me, that I didn’t need that, but instead I needed to start flossing and that would take care of it. And he was right! He is the rare doctor in my experience who tries to help the patient prevent problems from occurring. He is always kind and polite and I have always trusted him completely. I have often recommended friends and students of mine to him, and they have felt the same way. Partly because of him, I take good care of my teeth, and haven’t had many issues over the years, but I have had two crowns put in thos past year and the one he put in today fit perfectly right away! I’ve been a patient of Dr. Giannandrea and his predecessor in practice since 1976. That ought to tell you how highly I regard him. Above all, he is a (small-c) conservative practitioner, pursuing the least intervention necessary to solve a given problem. I’ve never felt any pressure to undergo a procedure. Nor have I ever regretted following his advice. He’s deliberate and thoughtful discussing options with me; offering counsel, but leaving the decision with me. He’s also upfront about potential costs. His competence and confidence are quietly evident. But he has a warm conversational style and wry sense of humor. He seems to welcome my curiosity about what he’s doing and why. His assistant, Betty, also possesses an appealing combination of efficiency and sociability. The comfortably modest suite reflects Dr. Giannandrea’s purposefulness. His goal is to impress you with his care, not his waiting room. Besides, he and Betty run the office so well that I’ve rarely ever waited.

Dr. Giannandrea is a rarity: A brilliant dentist, an academic and part-time professor who instructs others in his field, and who insists on a personal and private practice. His assistant checks you in and manages appointments and billing, he does the rest. His care is individual. caring, and hands-on, providing all treatments himself from exam to x-rays to cleanings and fillings, so he knows everything there is to know about his patients. And if a referral is needed, his resources are first class and convenient--often in the same building just an elevator ride away. Small wonder I have been his patient for many years, since he took over the practice from a senior who was retiring. If you are in Dr. Giannandrea's hands, you are fortunate.
