Glad my old doctor lost his license
I recently saw Dr. Mays in Asheville after he replaced my doctor of many years. On my first visit with him I told him about a lot of things that just didn’t seem right with me recently and some I had reported to my previous doctor for the past few years with no diagnosis. Later that night Dr, Mays called me and said he’d like me to get a genetic test for something. The test results confirmed he was right. I had been living with this all my life and no doctor diagnosed me with it. I feel like he really did his homework and followed up with me. I’ll be going back.

Terrible
Completely dismissive, makes comments and decisions without reading history or thoroughly asking questions. Avoid!

Just met him today
He seems to be a really good fellow and a great doc! Spent almost an hour getting to know him today. My old fam doc retired. Dr. Mays talked about me as much as I talked to him. Full checkup. My old doc, Jim Haaksma, highly recommends him and I think I have found a good replacement! Looking forward to seeing him for a few more years.

Dr. Mays lacks bedside manner and compassion.
Dr. Mays lacks bedside manner, compassion and has an arrogant nature. I feel blessed my Mother only had to be associated with him on the last day of her hospital stay. Immediately after her surgery, performed by another physician, he approached her via bedside while still recovering from anesthesia, asking questions in a confrontational manner. Luckily, I was in the room to speak on her behalf. The questions he asked where things he should have known by a simple chart review. When I told him he was making my Mother uncomfortable, he continued to stand and stare at her in an intimating fashion while comparing her to other patients he has had, insinuating she should be recovering faster. I would not recommend his services to any of my friends family members.

Came into ER on May 26, 2019. Dr.Mays did two CT scans and after 10 hour wait time, he said there was nothing wrong with the baby and recommended to visit Charlotte hospital. He made it sound urgent and pushed hard to go on an ambulance. It took over 2 hrs to get an ambulance to get us. Once we got to Charlotte (2 hrs later) we got the paperwork that Dr.Mays filled out and found out that he did see “did show a large amount of fluid in bilateral middle ears”. Dr.Rhett Mays withheld vital, to our baby’s life, information. We are glad that we had a different doctor tell us the truth.
