Good experience all around
All the staff was friendly and the assistant checking background information and handling preliminary vision and eye pressure exams was very nice and thorough. Dr. Feller isn't much for small talk, but he explained everything quite reasonably and was responsive to all my questions. The outcome was that he could have done surgery that might help me, but he thought it wouldn't help as much as a different kind of surgery that he doesn't normally do, so he recommended I go to a different surgeon. That's the kind of professionalism I like to see.

I'm perfectly confidant in Dr Feller.
I'm married to a physician, with an extended familly of physicians and surgeons and spent most of my working life in research hospitals. The unanimous opinion among my family members is that there is NO connection between bedside manner and competence. One does not predict the other. I saw Dr Feller thiis morning and found him quiet, unassuming and perfectly reassuring. He satisfied me that there was no immediate need to deal with a cataract and he usefully suggested strategies which would allow me to read printed text, which was my main concern.Don't be misled by his quiet manner and demeanor - he's there to help you and give you the best advice possible.

Opthalmologist and Surgeon
If you are looking for bedside manner, this doctor is not for you. He is, however, a good surgeon but apparently not a people person.

See someone else
Smug attitude, acted like he didn't really want to be there and wanted me to leave as soon as possible. I am being seen for glaucoma. I reluctantly had the laser treatment. To this day he has not explained why exactly I needed it since my pressures were 12 and 13 both before and after treatment. He initially was going to do one eye, but then decided to do both when I got there. No reason given. I won't be seeing him again.

Most impersonal MD I've every received care from.
My initial visit with Dr. Feller was the most worthless visit to an Ophthalmologist I've ever had in over 55 years of continuous eye care. He walked into the room, announced his name and proceeded to look at the computer. Not once was I given a hello, how are you doing, or any mention of how I felt my ocular health was. When he completed the examination of my eyes, he rolled back in the chair and told me things looked good. He didn't even mention my early stage cataracts. Now I've been watched for the last 35 plus years for glaucoma as I have a family history of it. His contention was since I was doing OK, he wouldn't need to see me for a year. I told him I wanted to be seen in six months as I had been for the same period I noted above and he agreed. Just a few of the words he deigned to say to me. He also had a major distraction in my ability to communicate with him. He had the worst case of nervous leg mvt. I've ever seen. He seemed to want to leave me ASAP! WHY? Lincoln Health, ME.
