Dr. Raul Montalvo, MD

Was told my appointment was poorly timed as they are moving offices and were sold. We received no communication of this prior to the appointment, nor did my husband who have been his patient. As a RN of over 40 year I was shocked and appalled by his lack of concern... when asked for assistance with a specific problem I was told 'I cannot help you' 'that paperwork takes too much time taking me and my staff away from sick patients like those with renal failure'. I am not sure how I was supposed to know this was a 'bad time' as the appointment time was available on the patient portal site. Why did no one call or text, email to change the appointment?We will be looking for a new primary care provider. STAY AWAY! Unless you have renal failure, then you are worthy of care.

Did not listen, talked over me, rude and disrespectful. I had to call his office to go over abnormal labs and radiology findings, they weren’t even going to call me and then referred me to a specialist who isn’t even working in this area anymore and hasn’t for quite some time. Just delay after delay and no integrity nor accountability. I have no desire to visit this office ever again.

I went for my first office visit after my insurance changed after being with the same DR at Sutter Gould for 20 years. Reception was pleasant as was his nurse.The Doctor was rushed, unfriendly & pragmative & spent about only minutes with me on my first visit, ordered labs and never once looked up from his laptop. Today I tried calling to get an urgent referral to a Cardiologist after a night in the hospital with chest pains. They could not get me in for 9 days and the receptionist Maria was argumentative and rude throughout. No one ever called me and they just sent me an appointment. Luckily I found a cardiologist who can see me sooner and didn’t require a referral ( I have a PPO & it is not required). I really miss my Dr & his staff who gave excellent care for 20 years, I’ll be searching for a new Doctor.

The Dr is the best he hears everything you tell him

If you are healthy, ok with non-masking and short on time, this is the doctor for you. Otherwise, steer clear. This review is late and pertains to earlier appointments. Doctor was assigned due to retirement of original primary care. First appointment was taciturn but did review work that prior physician requested. Second appointment was a waste of time as doctor refused to send patient for routine lab work prior to visit. He therefore didn't have any metrics to discuss. Doctor also did not mask when seeing a senior immunocompromised patient in the Spring of 2022. Office did not call to follow up on referrals to specialists. Office did not schedule routine follow up with primary care. Same office, different doctor, what a world of difference.

We changed Dr after our Dr retired. We stayed within the same practice and are very happy with everything. The staff is very helpful Dr Montalvo has made our transition very comfortable . It’s not easy changing Dr after 40 years. We waited no more than 5 or 10 minutes in the waiting room and even less wait time in the exam room. We are very pleased with the care here.

Dr. Montalvo is very pleasant and friendly. He's a bit on the quiet side but addresses your concerns well. He explains things in a simple and clear way. So far, he has always resolved my concerns!

Dr. means business. He cuts through to the medical matter and makes a decision that is best to help. I appreciate his style. I have never left feeling uncertain or without confidence in his decisions.

Staff is very professional and courteous. I have known Dr Montalvo for years and he has always made me feel my health is his priority. Grateful for Dr Montalvo and his staff.

Dr Montalvo went above and beyond to take care of all of my concerns and to make all appropriate referrals - even taking extra time to do a biopsy on a suspicious mole he noticed! He was super patient in explaining things and allowing me time to make sure all of the reasons for my visit were addressed.

I've been a patient of his partner for many years and my experience with front office today was better than usual, and the MA was great. Dr. Montalvo, unfortunately, left me with more questions than answers by the end of our short visit.

I have referred doctor Montavol to my daughter and other family members.
