I have been seeing Dr. Mudumbai nearly weekly for a five month period for a rare neurological disorder that impacts my optic nerves. So I can say from experience that Dr. Mudumbai is a one in a million doctor. He is truly an expert in his field, every question or concern, he has an immediate and clear answer for. He’s extremely thorough in his treatment plan and made sure I understood every step we took. I ended up needing surgery and I was terrified. Dr Mudumbai talked me through it time and time again, supported me while I cried, and never wavered or showed any frustration by having to keep explaining. I see a lot of commentary on the wait times, but it is so refreshing to have a Dr like him that doesn’t rush appointments, especially as he is often talking to patients about vision loss concerns that hold a lot of gravity. He gives the patient his full attention and care, and while that can make things run long, it is absolutely worth waiting for. Additionally Dr. Mudumbai is also an incredible human. His care for his patients overall well being and mental health is unmatched, the kindness and empathy he shows is above and beyond. I am so thankful for him. If you are ever battling something that calls for a neuro-ophthalmologist, Dr. Mudumbai is who you want by your side.

Blind due to his lack of response
I have been traveling to see him for months as I live out of state. His staff is not helpful, he is rude and has issues with punctuality, his seemingly is unable to sign his notes or return needed documentation for treatment, and does not respond for weeks at a time for scheduled meetings. My vision has gotten progressively worse leading to blindness and he has brushed me off. Don’t waste your time.

Put the wrong lens in my cataract surgery
At an appointment prior to cataract surgery, I asked him to explain the lens to me and he didn't. He did the first eye and it came out OK. He did the other eye a month later. Immediately afterwards, he said that he put the wrong lens in and had to do it over again. He did it over again immediately. This resulted in severe pain the first night. Several months or a year later, one of the residents said I had inflammation cells inside the eye and there was nothing I could do about it. That eye never reached 20:20 and is getting worse. None of the other doctors there at UW Medicine have admitted this is a problem. They all say the eye is OK. I was denied the experience of knowing what level my vision would have improved to if the error had not been made. I have other things wrong with my eyes, so I don't really have a complete understanding of the various factors influencing my eyesight in that eye. However, this mistake could have communicated initially & at the surgery.

I saw Dr. Mudumbai when I was experiencing an optic neuritis flareup which eventually led to a multiple sclerosis diagnosis. In an incredibly stressful time, Dr. Mudumbai was a source of calm. He took the time at every appointment to listen to all of my symptoms, answer all of my questions, and discuss the next steps with me. I particularly appreciated that he didn't jump to putting me on steroids as they weren't necessary for my case. Lastly, I got to see him in educator mode with a few resident physicians and it's clear he's not only a great physician but also a great educator. I feel ready to address my diagnosis head on because of his support and look forward to working with him in the years to come.

Total waste of time going to him. Rude and does not listen to your concern,. Runs late and has no bed side manners. I would give less than one star but there is no choice.

Doctor did not listen to my concerns and symptoms at all, just tried to sell me glasses and surgery. Doctor and physician assistant gave me conflicting medical advice, and made no attempt to reconcile. Waiting room time over 1hour.
